About Me

I'm a writer and a professor in the Humanities. I travel a lot for research, and pleasure, and generally love meeting fun, smart and interesting people. Usually when I travel I'm quite busy with archives and conferences, so I won't bother you much, though am always up for a historical tour and sampling of the area's finest. As a host, I'm pretty similar, and am happy to give advice or even a tour depending on the day/time of the term you come. Also, I'm a non-smoker and a vegetarian, and so don't allow smoking in my house, or the cooking of meat (dairy and cheese are fine).

Interests

Well, my academic interests are generally covered above, but otherwise I really enjoy being active outdoors, whether at the beach, hiking in the mountains, swimming in a melting snowcap, fresh springs in the desert, etc. I enjoy lots of conversation, a fine drink and always, always a good show.

Lately, I’ve been focused on trying to use Bitcoin to decentralize History and truly make it and the Digital Humanities a shared public good.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

First time I saw the Judean mountains, the Dome of the Rock, the Colosseum in Rome, standing in Augustus' palace and swimming in the ruins of Herod's sea-covered pleasure palace in the Mediterranean. I'm constantly astounded by the lasting power of human existence. Also, honestly, I'm still a bit in awe every time I fly, haha. I love feeling like a Zarathustra floating through the clouds.
