About Me

ABOUT ME

I am a third-year student of Classics at the University of Belgrade, Serbia. I am on a one-year scholarship in the United States at the moment, located in Austin, TX. I tend to be a very funny person at times, open minded, and most of all, extremely curious about different cultures, and always interested in learning new things. I absolutely adore travelling, and I consider myself a person who can come to any sort of agreement with others.

PHILOSOPHY

Basically, I consider that you should strive to make most of your life moments pleasant, having in mind especially what makes you yourself happy. You should be mindful of others, naturally, but you have to be your own self, unconstrained by other people's judgements or opinions.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am a complete beginning in couchsurfing, even though I have many friends who are much more experienced than I am, and it is by their wonderful suggestions that I find myself here now. :)

Interests

As a student of Classics, my interests primarily include Classical Greek and Latin, languages and literature as well. Since I was very small, I exhibited deep interest in learning foreign languages, and to this day, the best way to get my attention is to start a discussion on languages. I love reading, even though I don't have as much time for reading as I would like to, and I love music, especially classical and golden oldies. I especially love Italian, French and Greek evergreen music, and I will sometimes spend a lot of my time searching for new music, or just letting myself be completely immersed in a good classical piece.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Classical, Golden Oldies, French, Italian, Greek, 70s, 80s, 90s pop and rock

It might seem weird, but I have always enjoyed murder mysteries. Since I was a boy I was a fan of Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot, and even today I enjoy reading a good murder mystery now and then. Apart from that, I absolutely love the classical works which have come down to us from Ancient Greek and Roman authors, especially Greek epic poetry and rhetoric, something you can never grow tired of.

I have always been a bigger fan of TV shows, and especially comedies. At the moment, I am an avid fan of Bones, Castle, Fringe, Two and a Half Men, How I Met Your Mother, Game of Thrones. I used to love House and Monk before they were taken off the air, and I absoulutely love British comedy; Blackadder, Keeping up Appearences, The Vicar of Dibley, My Family, to name just a few...
When it comes to movies, I am generally not a huge fan of Holywood productions, and I enjoy good historical or period dramas mostly, and my favourite movie is La Vita e Bella.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have visited some of Europe's most beautiful cities such as Paris, Rome, London, Athens, Florence, Thessaloniki, Ravenna, Verona, etc. and all of these have been amazing experiences! One thing I remember is that an Italian pizza maker (the stereotypical older, plump, short one with moustaches and a white cap) was so amazed by my Italian (which is, in fact, nothing special) that he asked me to sing the Italian national anthem with him in the middle of the restaurant. I did very well, and I remember this occasion because that was the occasion when I felt myself closest to some other culture, and that made me extremely proud! Needless to say, me and my friends got free pizza as well ;)
