About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To figure out whether i want to do academic research the rest of my life, or if i want to do something else.

ABOUT ME

I don't really know what to say about myself. I'm a quiet, introverted guy, quite nerdy, i suppose, but always open to new experiences.

PHILOSOPHY

This is tough. I'm not really sure i have a personal philosophy yet. Every time i think i have one, it always changes.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm actually quite an introverted, reserved guy, and never really thought myself capable of being a very good host. A couple of years ago, though, a friend of a friend from Munich visited Singapore, and just for the heck of it i offered to show him around the city. I ended up having a lot of fun, and that's how i decided i'd be happy to meet more people on Couchsurfing, not hosting them on my couch - i'm still living with my parents, so that's not really an option - but giving personalised walking tours! It helps, i think, that i'm quite nerdy as well. Have lots of knowledge to share about Singapore. Not to mention i'm a linguistics graduate student, so if you want to know anything about the language situation in Singapore, i'm the person to ask!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have never hosted or been hosted. I came close to being hosted once, but a last-minute change of plans put an unfortunate end to that. I have, on the other hand, given someone a personalised walking tour of Singapore. Spent two days showing him around different parts of the city, talking about life in Singapore, exploring various social issues that affect each of our countries. It was pretty cool.

Interests

I love reading. I read whenever i can. I used to write too, but in the last couple of years i've just been too busy.

I enjoy walking, and when i'm not too busy with school i like to go for very long walks in the city.

I also love food. I'll try almost anything at least once. Recently i've tried to do a bit of cooking. I'm not very good at it yet, but it's great fun, and i intend to keep practicing.

I don't play computer games, generally, but a couple of years ago i started playing Minecraft and i've been crazy-hooked on it since! It's such an awesome, nerdy game!

Music, Movies, and Books

I like a lot of music. It really depends on my mood. I listen to quite a bit of classical, opera and jazz, but also quite enjoy alternative and post-rock, and recently have been really into electronic stuff. I think my tastes are quite diverse, actually.

Movies, books. Really there are too many to list. But i absolutely adore Pixar movies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I don't know if this sounds corny, but sometimes i feel like my whole life has been really amazing. I mean, it's such an ordinary life, but... I don't know... Sometimes it's the most ordinary things that end up being the most special.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm ethnically Chinese but grew up speaking almost entirely English. I'd be glad to be of help if anybody wants to practice their English. I speak Mandarin Chinese too, though not as well.

Currently i'm learning French, German and most recently Swedish. It'd be great it we could practice together.

Finally, i'm majoring in linguistics, and it's my life's passion. If you're interested, we could talk about language issues a bit.
