About Me

I am an open-minded and adventurous guy. I like to be around people and to make new friends. I grew up in southern Germany in a small village near the Swiss border and I am currently studying Cognitive Neuroscience in Marburg. I enjoy when the people around me enjoy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To me, couchsurfing is a great possibility to meet people from all around he world without leaving my home. I want them to have a good time in my place and in return, I want to get to know their stories, minds and languages.

Interests

Generally, I am intersted in a ton of things. I have the opinion that everything people can be interested in, will be interesting to you, as soon as you open yourself to it and understand the fascination behind it.
A lot of things have caught my fascination that way.

I love to learn languages and thereby discover people's thoughts and cultures. Its keeping me young, because with evry new language that I learn I start being a toddler again, until I grow up to speak like an adult. The feeling you get when finally becoming fluent enough to express your deepest thoughts and understand those of others is simply mind-blowing. I try to use every possibility to practice my languages and I am open to help eveyone wanting to practice theirs.

I like to talk about science, the universe and living beings. From quantum mechanics to remote stars and from Archea to the human brain. The fact that in this vast universe, under billions of galaxies with billions of stars, there is a planet, where life emerged and developed to ask questions about its existence, is quite mind-boggling to me.
Moreover, I like to talk about stuff I never have talked before.

When it comes to cooking, I am happy to continue this human tradition that helps to nourish us since the discovery of fire. The more people cook together, the more fun it is and the longer it takes, the tastier the result. The best cooks in the world are Italians and one of my life missions is to find out their secret. I am willing to try out every insect, strange cheese and hot sauce I am offered. The world of food is a world worth discovering.

As far as board games are concerned, my favorite is chess, because there is no luck involved and it's all about pure skill, or the lack of skill.

Music, Movies, and Books

Similar to my opinion about interests, I think that, since every type of music has its own passionate followers, there is in each genre something uniquely fascinating. As soon as you find this, you will be a fan of it. Therefore, I like music of most genres. Yet, I think that each genre contains a big amount of shitty music as well as good music. The one I listen to the most is currently hip-hop, preferrably in languages I am learning.

My favorite bands are:
A Tribe Called Quest
Lagrimas de Sangre
Odezenne

When going out, the music I enjoy the most is electronic music, especially psytrance and drum&bass.

My favorite movies are:
Waking Life
Inception
Das Experiment

My favorite books are:
Die dunkle Seite des Mondes
Io non ho paura
The Neverending Story

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I slept in a hammock in the crown of a tree at the river Tejo between Lisbon and Belém. The next day me and my friend rented a tandem bike for a ride through Belém to see its beautiful monuments and unesco world heritage sites.
