ABOUT ME
I just moved to Boulder, CO after spending the better part of a year in Barcelona, Spain. I love both, but Colorado wins in cleanliness :)
I finished my Masters in English Literature spring of 2008, and have been taking some time to, as Thoreau would say, "live" for a while. It's nice to not be so pressure driven. I am going back for my PhD in the Fall 2010 semester. I love to talk books. Yes, it seems I can relate anything to a book. I'm a bit obsessed with Moby-Dick, especially its Hindu symbolism (oh believe me, it's in there!).
About 3 months ago I decided to get back into running (yeah, that thing I used to do in undergrad that paid for my school!), and have the 2009 Chicago Marathon on my radar this upcoming October. Quite an undertaking for a retired middle-distance runner! I'm very excited for it.
PHILOSOPHY
"I don't know what I want; I am inconsistent, non-committal, passive; I like the indefinite, the boundless; I like continual uncertainty." --Gerhard Richter
"I like to live, to live my life intensely. I am the type of person who loves his life passionately. Of course, someday, I will die, but I have the impression that when I die, I will die intensely as well. I will die experimenting with myself intensely. For this reason I am going to die with an immense longing for life, since this is the way I have been living" --Paulo Freire
"What kind of an idea are you? Are you the kind that compromises, does deals, accommodates itself to society, aims to find a niche, to survive; or are you the cussed, bloody-minded, ramrod-backed type of damnfool notion that would rather break than sway with the breeze? -- The kind that will almost certainly, ninety-nine times out of a hundred, be smashed to bits; but, the hundredth time, will change the world" --Salman Rushdie, The Satanic Verses
"...in the beginning when the world was young there were a great many thoughts but no such thing as truth. Man made the truths himself and each truth was a composite of a great many vague thoughts…the moment one of the people took one of the truths to himself, called it his truth, and tried to live his life by it, he became a grotesque and the truth he embraced became a falsehood." --Sherwood Anderson, "Book of the Grotesque"
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
When I lived in Charlotte, I would meet up with other couchsurfers at restaurants, etc. Barcelona was a bit overwhelming; I had more requests than I could handle and sort of stopped checking my inbox for a while (bad, I know!). I'm hoping to meet some cool people here in Boulder at a more relaxed pace.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've met with people at restaurants and bars, that kind of thing.

I ran Division I XC and track in college, and have lived in Spain. I love traveling solo, and my first try at that was in India. After that Europe seemed pretty easy...
