About Me

CURRENT MISSION

"Live like you're dreaming"

ABOUT ME

HELLO SURF COUCHERS. My name is Joel and I'm a hitch-hiking street musician.

Back in '09 I was all like "I wonder what the east coast is like?"

So I went out there and surfed around and had a blast and ended up living in Philadelphia for six months.

There I met modern day hitch hikers and got sucked into their world. My car ended destroying itself minutes before my lease went up which I took as a blessing from the universe to start hitch hiking myself.

That was Summer of '10, and I've since been all across the US, playing music and making friends / memories.

PHILOSOPHY

"You live once, and once is all you need."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I like to spread the gospel of this site and the community of open minded adventure seekers who use it.

I am particularly taken by the CS ethos of cultural exchanges and sharing your experiences and personality. I strive to live by those standards with everyone I interact with.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed nationwide and partied with many fellow couchsurfers. We've laughed and learned and grown together in the mutual glow of badass company.

Interests

I am fascinated with melodies. And seeing how people tick. And with the sheer scale of the universe.

I'm always down for deep discussion. I'm also always down for rampant silliness. I'm also also always down to listen: listen to stories, listen to opinions, listen to music. I'm also also also always down to experience: experience a new food, experience a new activity, experience a new place and it's atmosphere. Sometimes simply being somewhere and soaking it all in can be awesome enough.

Music, Movies, and Books

Yeah man.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Slept in a hollowed out Redwood stump once. And in an abandoned mobile crime lab. And in a greenhouse. And in a yacht. And in a haunted radio station. And in a tree house some bum made.

I've hitch hiked through half the states, traveled through almost all of them, usually always broke. Always found rides, food and friends.

Hitched a ride from the Vice President of Twitter once.

I helped save the life of a kid who tried jumping to his death from a tree I was camping next to. Haunting.

I was evicted from the Occupy Wall Street camp in Lower Manhattan by hundreds of NY Police in riot gear. That was surreal.

I was at the Mayan Ruins in Mexico for the "End of the World" on 12/21/12. A tropical storm hit the minute midnight struck. Everyone was freaking out. World didn't end.

Teach, Learn, Share

Everyone is valuable in some way.

"Survival of the fittest" is the way of the past; the way of the future is to understand that everyone adds some type of value to the human experience, some type of understanding as to who we are and what we are capable of becoming.
