About Me

I created this profile many years ago, because it sounded like a cool thing to try. However, living in a student dorm back then, I was unable to offer any accommodation, and I pretty much gave up on the whole idea of couchsurfing abroad.
I've always had an adventurous heart, but for the most part of my life I held myself back for various reasons (the main being fear - of taking risks, of being unable to sustain myself, of injury, of "bad" people etc), but as time passes I find that sticking with the safe plan, the steady job, the comfort of home brings me little in terms of fulfillment.
And so I've decided that, once I finish my residency (at the end of 2017), I will attempt something I'd never imagined myself capable of doing: a bicycle trip around the world. Daunting as it may seem, and quite distant in the future (I've only made this decision a day before writing this!), I'm writing everything that goes into this grand plan down so as to have something to look back on when I inevitably start getting cold feet and remember the determination with which this whole plan has started.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm (back) here in preparation for the a fore-mentioned trip I'm planning. Being that currently I have next to no experience in either cycling, camping by myself or international diplomacy, I figure a good first step would be starting to know people from across the world that I might one day actually end up meeting in person.

Interests

Apart from the medical sciences, and microbiology in particular, which were why I studied medicine in the first place, I greatly enjoy trekking, having seen a good number (though by no means exhaustive) of my country's mountains, traveling and visiting various places in general, going to the cinema every so often, reading a good book. I also play an admittedly unhealthy amount of video games.

Music, Movies, and Books

So much to chose from. If I were to strictly limit myself to one item in each category, it'd have to be Pink Floyd, The Lord of the Rings (if I'm going by the number of times re-watched) and a Romanian novel called "Cel mai iubit dintre pământeni" ("The Most Beloved Man on Earth" or something to that effect).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Surviving a fall-and-slide down an icy, steep mountainside during an ill-equipped, ill-planned, brilliantly-executed mountain trek to the Omu Peak in late March. Also, running a quarter-marathon with a protruded spinal disk. Neither of them are what I'd call smart experiences, but they're pretty damn amazing to think back on.

Teach, Learn, Share

Not exactly sure what's expected to be written here. We both teach and learn with every experience we share with others, so I suppose it's a bit of an inevitability in a community based around briefly sharing your life strangers.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Ughh I don't know, a dry sense of humour, vaguely useful medical information, somewhat embarrassing stories about getting lost in mountains. Absolutely sub-rudimentary cooking skills. Moderate computer know-how.

Countries I’ve Visited

Czech Republic, Greece, Turkey, United States
