About Me

I'm a television addict and I read too much fan fiction. I've had the traveling bug for as long as I can remember (my first memory of wanting to backpack across Europe is from when I was 9) and I don't see it going away any time soon. I love vanilla spice hot chocolates from Starbucks and don't mind spending an entire day sitting in a park people-watching. I'm fascinated by observing how others interact with one another (perhaps I should have been an Anthropologist?) and I would rather spend an evening in my sweats emptying my Netflix queue than going out on the town.

Everything I do, I do it with the phrase "go big or go home" in mind and I'm always looking for a way to one-up myself. Ran a 5k? Let's train for a marathon. Want to go to Europe? Let's plan a year long backpacking trip. Seeing a musical? Let's go 5 times in a row.

I'm overly competitive (mostly with myself) and have an obsessive personality, which is either an awesome or deadly combination. I can be stubborn and hate giving up (that alone is how I've finished several marathons) and am always trying to figure out how I can be a better person.

Any day I can make progress toward this goal is a good day.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Honestly, Couchsurfing has kind of restored my faith in humanity a bit. It's easy to become jaded and cynical and see the worst in everything, but this whole Couchsurfing experience has reminded me that there really are good, kind-hearted people in the world who will go out of their way to help a complete stranger, and that is so ridiculously awesome.

Interests

Television, musicals, cheesy pop songs, bad movies, improv comedy shows, meeting celebrities (I have some great stories!), impulse vacations, road trips, terrible puns, chocolate, Starbucks, a good song on repeat for hours, montage videos, inspirational songs, character development on television shows, fictional love stories, romantic comedies, meeting people who are also interested in my interests.

Books; Yes Please by Amy Poehler, really all memoirs by comedians (especially Mindy Kaling and Tina Fey!), anything by Tess Gerritsen, The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Divergent.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spending an entire weekend sitting on a sidewalk to get theater tickets, visiting New York City (it's my favorite place in the world), getting on a one way flight and having no idea when I'd be back, moving to a non-English speaking country when I only speak English, spending a night with nowhere to stay in Amsterdam, going to dinner with complete strangers (as a self-proclaimed loner and introvert, this was a big deal for me!), spending a year traveling alone with no one to rely on except myself.

Teach, Learn, Share

Traveling full time has made me want to become more aware of what is going on in the world, especially in regards to politics and history. I've never found either subject all that interesting, but after spending an evening having dinner with people from all over the world (England, Portugal, Belgium) discussing American politics and realizing I knew the least of anyone at the table, I vowed to pay attention to that stuff more. I love meeting people who can open my eyes to things like this.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm awesome at baking and have tons of crazy stories from my travels. I would be happy to share either! I also have lots of obscure knowledge about musical theatre and television and am pretty good at meeting celebrities.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Montenegro, Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States
