Music, Movies, and Books
i once had a serendipitous, magical (if you will) encounter with a book i now call my favorite. I was tucked away in the dark corner of my school library when a moment of intentional stray of focus led my eyes to a random book sitting on the shelf. It was collecting dust like the rest and nothing particularly stood out except for the fact that it was in my field of vision. I grabbed the book and mindlessly flipped through the pages, trying to prolong this "break" i had justified in my head. 9 hrs later, i finished the entire book, had 40 min. to shower, eat and run to my exam room. THAT's how much i loved the book... or i just dont know how to prioritize.
aside from that,I really enjoy reading british plays, esp oscar wilde and george benard shaw.
magical realism is fantastic as well (pun intended). so Gabriel garcia Marquez, laura Esquivel, Jose Saramago,(Amy Tan... though she doesn't really belong in this category) FRANZ KAFKA!!!! and my recent discovery, Haruki Marukami.
I read in bundles by author so once i like one of their work, i tend to read them all... but one singular book that deserves the mention on its own-flower for algernon
Dicken is justifiably good but overwhelmingly depressing so unless i have a week set aside to rebound from him, I definitely do not seek him out.
I think overall, i enjoy short stories much more than long novels... like Proust or most russian literature. I dont think i can ever come to term with how (arguably) unnecessary long the length of these novels get. although if you are really passionate about a certain lengthy novel, i will certainly give it a try.
shamefully, i'm not big up on the music scene and have no idea what i'm listening to half of the time. so i'm all ears if you're willing to share some of your good music.
movies-i like any foreign film (including chinese) that i have to read subtitles for. but thats not to say i dont enjoy a big blockbuster there and now like The Iron man or the Kite Runner.
cartoons: Grave of the fireflies; Mulan; Pocahontas;the iron giant. any Pixar really
Indie films: Junebug; Little miss sunshine; memento; and requriem for a dream. City of god,American history Xã
hollywood movies: match point; Eastern Promises; Enchanted;the motorcycle's diary; legally blonde.
foreign film: Amores Perros; Together; Amelie; The Dinner game; Cinema paradiso!!!!!!!
