Overview
About Me
Hello! I’m Xinuo, currently a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University. Back in China, I serve as an Associate Professor with a Ph.D. in History and Archaeology.
Beyond the library and excavations, I am a proud member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and the American Numismatic Society (ANS). I view every historical artifact as a bridge connecting us to the past, and I bring that same curiosity to meeting new people.
I am a tidy, respectful, and intellectually curious guest. I value deep conversations over a cup of tea/coffee—whether we are discussing the evolution of ancient coins, the Silk Road, or the simple joys of local American life.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I joined Couchsurfing because I believe the best way to understand a country is through its people, not just its monuments.
As a researcher, I spend a lot of time with "history," but I want to experience the "present" through the eyes of local communities. My goal is to foster genuine U.S.-China cultural exchange, one friendship at a time. I’m here to learn, to listen, and to share the rich stories of my heritage.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: I appreciate the tranquility of Classical and Instrumental music. I used to play the Clarinet, so I have a soft spot for woodwind melodies.
Movies: I love stories about the human spirit and resilience, such as Forrest Gump, The Shawshank Redemption, and Once Upon a Time in America. I also enjoy the lighthearted cultural insights of Modern Family.
Books: I’m naturally drawn to historical non-fiction, biographies, and travelogues. I admire the works of Peter Hessler for his deep observations on cultural shifts.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I have a passion for "building bridges," both literally and culturally:
Literal Bridges: I’ve volunteered for several years to help villagers in remote mountainous areas build bridges, ensuring children can cross rivers safely to reach their schools.
Cultural Bridges: I served as a gallery educator at the Kunming Museum, sharing the heroic legacy of the Flying Tigers—the American pilots who helped China during WWII. It was a powerful reminder of our shared history of courage.
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach: I can offer expert insights into Ancient Chinese History, Numismatics (coins), and Archaeology. I can also teach you the meditative art of Chinese Calligraphy or help you practice Mandarin.
Learn: I’m eager to hear your stories! I want to learn about local American traditions, community history, and perhaps some local "hidden gems" that aren't in the guidebooks.
Share: I bring a positive, appreciative attitude and am a very tidy houseguest. I’m happy to share stories from my hometown, Nanjing, and perhaps offer a small, thoughtful cultural gift from my research field.
