About Me

CURRENT MISSION

meeting open-minded people...

ABOUT ME

Diversity-minded, thus LGBTQIA+ friendly ;- )

I like to talk about many themes or subjects, be it yours or mine... (see below My Interests, My Favorite Books/Movies).
I can chat for hours but also relax with a book (or my thoughts) in silence. I have a curious mindset, it's the only way to get to know a person...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

No experience as a surfer yet, but I host regularly and mostly with nice experiences, already several times discovering and cherishing new friendships. New friends come again regularly...
I like to get to know you, so if you are looking for a couch only, I prefer that you try to find it somewhere else.

Interests

Other cultures and way of life, (personal) history, archeology, politics, science, medicine, sundry technique, architecture, art and many others.
I love to travell (especially overland: Europe, Africa, latin America).
Hobbies: reading, art-house movies, (modern) theatre, (modern) dance, swimming, skiing, sailing, cycling, meeting friends, cooking and much more...

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: too many to mention, a.o. non-fiction, history (people, countries), and fiction/novels; if I can, in writer's own language (English, German, French).
(I recognise a lot of my thoughts and ideas in Yuval Harari's : "Sapiens" .)
I like novels about the life of non-straight characters in various cultures, who try to find their way in life against all odds and/or in cultures that are not (yet) well-known to me.

Several types of music: popular, dance/trance/house, oldies (some), world music (some), latin (some), listening a lot to the radio for new releases.

Movies: art-house, psychological "drama", international independent cinema, non-stereotypical life-styles, other (sub-)cultures, gay-/bi-themed (a.o.: Moonlight, Love Simon, Brokeback Mountain, My own private Idaho, A Single Man, Milk, Beautiful Thing, Death in Venice, Maurice, Transamerica, Yossi and Jagger, My beautiful Laundrette, Mysterious Skin, Fresa y Chocolate, Eastern Boys, Una giornata particolare,The opposite of sex, The Crying Game, Latter Days, North Sea Texas, Stadt Land Fluss, Christopher and his Kind, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, The Wedding Banquet, Zero Dark Thirty, Esteros, No Touching, Eternal Summer, La Mala Educación, Cibrail, Shelter, Eban and Charly, Call me by your name, God's Own Country, Alex Strangelove, los Angeles de Sex, Matthias et Maxime, El Houb, Close, and others...),
historical, some action (but definitely no horror, no Sci-fi).
On TV: documentaries, politics (national/ international/geo-), travell, some talkshows, some series

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

travelling in West Africa and latin America, getting in touch with local people trying to understand how their life is shaped (or limited) by their culture, religion, society, education or profession and what they think, feel, enjoy and aspire...

Teach, Learn, Share

" The human has not one but two births - first, when a person is born from the mother's womb, and - second, when that person rises from the socio-culturally imposed cocoon of prejudices and ignorance... " -- Abhijit Naskar
----------------

If I have time, I like to show people around in my town, other dutch cities or landscapes, typical aspects of dutch architecture and (old) buildings, interesting museums, traditional Dutch windmills, struggle and organisation against ever-threatening inundations, dunes and beaches are nearby, as well as the flower fields (in spring), etc.
I like to learn about other (sub-)cultures and societies, customs, ideas, history and its influence on society and people, their (love) relationships, family ties, friendships, etc.
Sharing, well, whatever my guests are interested in...
