About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Keep exploring, keep learning, keep loving, and embrace that irrational bohemian spirit!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I first fell in love with Couchsurfing when I used the site to meet and surf with people for 6 weeks in Paris, just after I left college. After a year of travelling round New Zealand and parts of Africa I then felt inspired to buy a bicycle and a one-way ticket to the south of France where upon I couch-surfed my way back to England! A year later I made another couchsurfing/bicycle trip across Europe. After originally using the site as a 'surfer', inspired by the incredible kindness and generosity of my hosts, I then also became host on my return to the UK. Couchsurfing has truly opened my mind and heart to the world!

Interests

Everything and growing! =) Hmmm but to elaborate a little...all forms of art; creating, viewing and participating, making lots of (vegan) foooood, eating lots of (vegan!) food, film-making, nature, growing vegetables, music and more music, piano playing, cycling, extreme sports...bungee jumping, plane flying, skydiving, canyon swinging, cable-towing, black and white water-rafting...spontaneity and randomness, bohemianism, yoga, meditation, climbing things, cartwheels, waking up and laughing at the ridiculousness of where I seem to be, camping in weird and wonderful places, spending time with my fantastic friends, fell walking with my dad, running in the rain, and the anticipation of the places I'll see and people I'll meet on my forthcoming travels!

Music, Movies, and Books

Love pretty much all music... Had such fun times this year (2005/06) boogying to The Strokes, Kings of Leon, Franz Ferdinanad, Pulp, The White Stripes, The Libertines, Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Blur, Feeder, Kaiser Chiefs, Hard-Fi, Oasis, Queen, Razorlight, The Zutons, The Killers, The Young Knives...etc etc etc!! 'Hallelujah' Jeff Buckley and 'Run' by Snow Patrol are particularly cute and mighty too! Of course this doesn't account for the reams of classical composers, underground bands, and world music that I've been fortunate enough to have grown up with, been exposed to, or stumbled upon!

Film wise, I have a penchant for arty, often French ones (oo Amelie is one of my favourite), the more weird the better, ones that stretch the mind a little or a lot. Ah and although it's sometimes nice to escape with a touch of Hollywood (Moulin Rouge, Forest Gump...), it's the humour of Wright/Pegg creations 'Shaun of the Dead' and 'Hot Fuzz' that induces that wonderful state of paralytic laughter! I would, however, love to watch more films than I do.

Books...you can't go wrong with 'Round Ireland with a Fridge' by Tony Hawks and 'Join Me' by Danny Wallace - two ridiculous, true and absolutely inspirational stories!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In order to raise money for a volunteer project in Kenya...flew to Scotland on my lonesome and became the youngest competitor to run the 26.2 miles of the Lochaber Marathon, round Ben Nevis!

Teach, Learn, Share

That's the spirit! =)
