About Me

I was born in Canada, but my family moved around a lot when I was growing up and I've never lived in the same place for more than 3 years. I studied sustainable agriculture in The Netherlands and I specialised in management, innovation, and entrepreneurship. I like to go WWOOFing wherever possible (cheap, and amazing experiences). If you've never heard of WWOOFing it's like CouchSurfing only you stay on a farm.

Sometimes my boyfriend & I use CouchSurfing together. He's originally from Northern Germany and considers himself a viking at times. He studied biosystems engineering (also in The Netherlands) and is one of the most chillaxed people you'll ever meet.

Okay, so back to me.

I consider myself an avid adventurer, I like to try and see as many new places and meet as many new people as possible. I enjoy gatherings of people! Sometimes in the form of a party, or at a club. But mostly just a group of friends hanging out together, having a nice evening (which sometimes carries on into the next day... oops).

I go bouldering, although I'd never consider myself a great sportsman. I enjoy making wines and ciders, we've tried beer a few times (unsuccessfully), so now we just stick with the fruit juice. Cooking is one of those things I really enjoy doing. I can spend hours preparing a meal, making it from scratch. I try to buy as many things as local as possible and to cook seasonally. I like to forage mushrooms and berries when I go out on long walks/hikes.

I'm a friendly, cheerful, and somewhat funny person who spends a large majority of their day sleeping, reading, eating, talking, and watching a film or a show when I'm not out on an adventure.

Oh and I collect glass jars and love making soap <3.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My student house in Wageningen has always been a kind of "sanctuary" for backpackers and other travellers! We are a very liberal household and we enjoy meeting new people! Plus a lot of us individually use couch surfing when we go travelling so we feel it's time to repay the favour :).

I'm on couchsurfing because when I travel, I like to be as local as possible. When I was younger and we'd go on holiday with my family we would always stay in hotels, ordering room service, and visiting museums. It was a great experience travelling like that, but staying with locals, and eating cheap street food, and sharing stories and experiences with people you've just met is my preferred method of travel.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I don't want to say I'm one of those people who "listens to everything".... but I'm one of those people who listens to a lot of things? 90's hip-hop and punk rock is where my heart truly lies.... but I listen to classic rock as well, the occasional techno/house/psychedelic trance, and lofi hiphop is great to study to.

Movies: I hate this question. I love so many films, it's really hard to choose. I mean, Gladiator, The Lord of the Rings, Rainman, How to Train Your Dragon, Mr Holland's Opus, Step Brothers, The Prestige, and Goodbye Christopher Robin are some of my favourites!

Books: Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón is my favourite book of all time. Although I'm more of a fantasy fan. The Lord of the Rings, ASOIAF, Stormlight Archives (anything by Brandon Sanderson to be honest), and the Book Thief are all fantastic books as well.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Flew a military aeroplane in Ukraine where the war is going on at the moment. Did lots of flips and stuff which was fun!

At the moment I'm ridin' solo through Scandinavia until September 2019, so I'm unavailable to host people myself during this time.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you about agriculture if you really want, hahaa. But also for those of you interested in learning crocheting, beer/wine/cider/soap/cheese making, about my student town of Wageningen, games, etc.

I know a lot of stupid and random fun facts if you're up for broadening your range of general knowledge of stuff that's interesting but probably not useful.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A student experience for those of you who are thinking of applying to the university here, but want to know what it's like being a student outside of the university in Wageningen. We're friendly, outgoing, but also loud and crazy!

With those who host me I can share my good humour, great movies, stories, fantastic food (most of the time...), and some cool card games.
