About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To explore around Germany and the rest of Europe, and return the favour to others when I'm able.

ABOUT ME

I'm a rather social and very easy-going person, just looking to expand my network to other cultural communities overseas. I love learning about cultures and about people, which is what led me to migrating to Germany for a PhD.

PHILOSOPHY

1. If it's good, great!
2. If it's not good, it will soon revert to 1.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Unfortunately limited in recent years, as I have lived in overcrowded sharehouses with friends and strangers who aren't so open to CS.
I keep abreast of CS events in my home, but rarely get to attend them.

BEST COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Japan for 18 days in January, '07:

With particularly short notice (just 5 days) I confirmed my inclination to travel to Japan in January, went to the travel agent and after three hours of in-depth planning, bought my ticket and went home and hopped on Couch Surfing. I checked for people in a number of places, and had a reply from a lovely young woman from Chiba. She said I could stay with her for two days, and what I didn't know at the time was that she arranged for me to stay with first one, then another of her friends, so I could have a nice calming beginning to my trip. I don't think she knows just how thankful I am for her taking me, because before I met up with her I felt very alone in a tiny room in a noisy city where I didn't speak the language very well! A very scary concept at the time!

In the end, her friends were so nice, they invited me to return to their place before my plane trip home, and I took them up on their offer!

--------
I have become long-term friends with fully half of the people I have hosted, returning to visit them in Europe and Japan on multiple occasions. I thank CS for the opportunity to have made these friendships!
