ABOUT ME

I am a semi-pro couch surfer working the International circuit. I have my own network, that I have met over the last ten years but I would like to expand and meet new people in new places. I follow the surf and the snow as I try to combine it with work and university. I am currently looking to do a PhD and trying to find a cool spot.

PHILOSOPHY

I always gotta run for the sun and kick it freestyle.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I share my experiences with others and pass on some good info.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have surfed couches in Australia, Finland, Denmark, UK, Russia and France. Here is my account going from the UK to Russia....

I arrive din London May 30 and Tanya was suppose to meet at the airport but when I called she got the wrong day and was busy washing her hair. I convinced her to meet me at the metro where I won two free train tickets in a booth. I tried to change money but after $60, I had only enough for a phone call, the metro, a beer and McDonalds. Eventually I saw big Ben and got a hold of Julie-anne. She was staying with a French DJ and his girlfriend. We went out for a beer and they made fun of me. I ended up sleeping over on the couch a few hours before catching my early fight to Moscow.

So I arrived in Moscow more tired than fuk with no clue, hoping a dude would meet me. Customs, I stumbled through and ran into this bearded philosophy major with a sign including mixed up English alphabet. We talked about gothic German as we by passed a $50 taxi for 10 rubble bus.

We battled our way through rush hour crowds to the Moscow state university were I was able to lay my eyes on the decrepit world famous Uni on its last legs. After passing through the guards, we went in the main entrance shuffling through litter, missing floor boards, dim lights and broken tiles. Depressing and in a state even Haiti would be ashamed of. Eventually we got through rubble in constant repair and got to the dorm rooms. I met Renato and Lena who would be my couch surfing hosts. I was informed that there would be no hot water but the canteen was having food for about 50 rubbles. I was introduced to about 20 Canadian studying Russian, many young early 20’s. They were about the only foreigners there.

On our way home that night we got followed by a Russian claiming to be a lost drunk Portuguese student all by himself in Moscow at night with the metro closing. He ended up coming with us to the university but gave up his act when he started drinking vodka with the guard. He finally left about 5 am.
