About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Lessen my impact... listen, learn and share more

ABOUT ME

My earliest memories are of wanting to homesteaded in Alaska. In the mid sixties I did. I enjoy all aspects of playing in snow, but have spent a lot of time in, on and under the ocean. Ran a dog team for 21 years, have done a little mountaineering and feel at home off the grid and in wild places. I studied biology, mostly botany, but never worked in the field. I like working with my hands and mind and have managed to support myself doing so, raising kids and running a business without completely getting lost along the way.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It's great fun meeting people from all corners of the world who come to Denali and equally great to be able to get to know people in the various places I travel to.

Interests

I'm interested in far too many thing to list here. I'm a gardener, I like being on water and under water. I build things and modify things. I like to know how things work. I'm a homesteader. When something interests me, I study it until I have satisfied that interest. Then I go on to the next. And the next....

Music, Movies, and Books

Rock & roll, bluegrass, Appalachian, acoustic guitar. I mostly read about the Arctic & it's people, places and natural history, but enjoy authors like Tom Robbins.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Climbed Denali (highest mountain in North America), ran the Iditarod Trail 1200-mile sled dog race and built a life off the grid using various alternative technologies.

Teach, Learn, Share

I live a largely subsistence life style fishing, shrimping, hunting and growing much of our food. I brew beer and make cheese. We enjoy hiking and water sports. Saying that, I am very involved with community and efforts to lesson humans impact on the Earth.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to share stories & experiences and have others share theirs with me. I value the advice and time people give me and hope to reciprocate when they are in Alaska.

Countries I’ve Visited

Aruba, Australia, Austria, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba, Canada, Cayman Islands, England, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Palau, Switzerland, Turkey, Virgin Islands, British

Countries I’ve Lived In
