About Me
CURRENT MISSION
אַבי נישט ענגליש
ABOUT ME
I'm an insatiable learner. My current passion is learning languages, which conflicts in a useful way with my introvertedness, far more so than my previous passion, math.
PHILOSOPHY
I live life to learn and to carry on the traditions and culture of my ancestors. I believe in the importance of diversity in ideas, cultures and languages.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've now hosted several dozen people, had wonderful experiences, spoke a bunch of languages, and have surfed myself a couple times as well in Mexico, Germany, France, and Uruguay.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
So far CS experiences have been incredibly fulfilling. I have formed friendships with people, learned about other cultures, and (when surfing) experienced outstanding hospitality.
Interests
Languages, of course, and linguistics; computer programming, math and science; public transit and safe streets

Music, Movies, and Books
Most recently focus on Jewish (especially Yiddish and traditional Hebrew, or wordless nigun) music, but also traditional folk or folk-like music in other languages. I like something I can sing not just listen to...
Books: all over the place, usually nonfiction or in Yiddish or some other non-English language
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The first time I walked into New Square (a Hassidic shtetl in upstate NY) and saw hundreds of children speaking Yiddish...
Teach, Learn, Share
Because of my passion for languages, I'm specifically looking to host guests who speak one of my listed languages and would agree to communicate with me in it (although this may require some patience if I am not expert!). In return, I'm more than happy to share what linguistic knowledge I've gathered along the way. I can also teach you math, but am not waiting with bated breath for you to ask.
