About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Me and my family will visit west USA in july / august 2008

ABOUT ME

I am a civil engineer, working now on my own. Me and my wife are 53 and we have 2 children 20 and 18.
This summer will be our last holiday time together, because the children are now old enough to go on their own.
We are planning a tour in some western states of USA, starting on july 13th 2008 in Salt Lake City, and visiting Utah, Arizona and California. We will leave from San Francisco on august 14th 2008.
For this trip, we will rent a car and stay in hôtels.
During our travel, we would like to meet local people. To do this, the best way is to be hosted in local people's houses, so if you live in these states, are proud of their beauty and would like to receive our family for one night, let us know.

PHILOSOPHY

We are on earth for a short time, so I try my best to make it enjoyable. I consider everyone as an important person.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We all like meeting people and discover other ways of life.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first time in USA was in 1976, the bicentennial year. I did a big tour hitch hiking all alone, covered 11,000 miles and crossed 37 states, from New York City to Denver, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon,Los Angeles, San Francisco, St Louis, Memphis, New Orleans, Washington,...
I was a 22 years old student, with not much money..
I met there a lot of local people, and have had many experiences, but one is still in my mind.
I was in El Paso, Texas, having a coffee in a place where some mexican workers used to spend some time together. One of them asked me what I was doing there and I replied that I was wisiting USA without any transportation mean. Then, some of the workers ordered some food for me (hot mexican) and we spent the all evening talking together.
At the end, one of the workers invited me to sleep in his place, just because he would not like me to stay outside during the night. His apartment was limited to one small room with a single bed. He said that I would sleep on the bed, as I am his guest, and slept on the floor.
The next morning, he gave me half of his breakfast, (that is one cookie each), and said goodbye and good luck.

Interests

I play Celtic music on my fiddle. I like all sorts of music, classical, traditional, country and rock and roll.
I am interested in classic motorbikes. I own a 1971 750 Laverda which I completely restored to new. With this rare italian model, I participate to events and club meetings.
Yanne plays classical music on her violon. She belongs to an amateur orchestra and they do it pretty well.
