About Me

Ever since I started traveling the world I fell in love with the experience and adventure of discovering new places and meeting new interesting people and cultures.

My favorite way of getting to know a new place is by foot. While I do visit the major tourist attractions like most people I find it that the real cultural gems and unique experiences can't be usually found among the corridors of a museum. That is, unless you go to the Tesla museum in Belgrade and get to play with his inventions - holding a florescent light which works by wireless electricity really makes you feel like a star-wars Jeddy :)

Such experiences include eating a real Italian pizza in a local shop in some back-way ally in Rome with real local customers or stumbling to a local neighborhood bar in Tokyo where a local Japanese couple on a date asked me to have pictures with me. I guess it was an unforgettable first date for them :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've traveled with family and friends and I've traveled alone.
I've stayed at fancy five star hotels and not so fancy two star hotels, rented apartments with friends and stayed at various hostels and inns.

This makes Couch-surfing the next big thing (TM). Both for hosting people from all around the world and maybe staying at other couchsurfers' places and getting to know their local culture from a local person's point of view.

Interests

Anything between chilly neo jazz which puts me in a blissful mood, learning new languages and discussing Boolean logic.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm addicted to the "Chillout Dreams" channel on di.fm and cannot work or study without it.
I like Hollywood blockbusters like the next guy and anything by Tim Burton & Johnny Depp is a must see but my true favorites would be foreign cinema that makes you think and feel. The last movie that qualifies would be "La vi d'Adele" which sucked me into Adele's life and made me feel her love, passion and regrets.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I made a wrong turn while visiting a famous Buddhist temple complex in Kyoto.
I arrived at a tiny minor shrine with only a single monk at the entrance. I had the entire place to myself so I sat on the wooden porch looking at this beautiful ancient rock garden carefully arranged to depict a story of creation, surrounded by tall everlasting trees and the city towers in the background. I must have sat there for two hours just mesmerized by the view and had the most amazing moment of enlightenment. I literally felt the weight of the daily troubles my mind was occupied with lifting from my heart and I left with an inexplicable feeling of joy and happiness.

Teach, Learn, Share

My philosophy of life, while based on my Jewish heritage, also includes passion for eastern ways of thought. I love reading books about Zen Buddhism, Taoism and similar schools of thought. On the other hand I can be very technically oriented and also read and learn about science and engineering.
