About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Enjoy some time off in Europe

ABOUT ME

I've lived many places in the USA, and might be able to tell you some things about many of them. I've also lived in England for two years, which was in irreplaceable experience, though didn't yield any new linguistic information. It may have been better if it were France, Italy, or Indonesia (or something).

I love history, and I'm not a fan of camping. I don't mind "roughing it" on the couch, but I prefer heating, electricity, and indoor toilets so this place is perfect for me.

At home (in Boulder) I have two Chinese nationals staying with me right now, but we've had Germans, Spanish, English, and one or two American's live with us over the years. You could say that I'm pretty friendly to new people from new cultures, and that might be an understatement.

I know that American's get a bad reputation, sometimes for good reason. Many American's are brash, and quick to blame others. Don't think of it as an American trait though, think of it as an asshole trait. There are lot's of super friendly Americans.

To be clear though, I'm an atheist, I never voted for anyone named Bush, and I campaigned against the younger one quite a bit, both times. Needless to say I'm quite Liberal.

PHILOSOPHY

Reasonability in all things. I say that knowing full well that many believe that a particular choice that I've made makes me an extremist. I'm a vegetarian, and pretty strict about it. But I'm reasonable in that I don't think everyone should do everything that I do, or do it the same way.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm brand new to the CS project so far, but I usually have an infectious good attitude, and a love of knowledge. Those things are sure to help, no?

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm a student at a Chinese School for martial arts, and I often stay with out of town students, and host them when they're in town. I also have lots of experience with people from all over the world staying for months (or years) at my home. So far, I've never had any experience with this website though.

Interests

History, art, new cultures, interesting people.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: LoTR Trilogy and The Hobbit. Beyond that I mostly read non-fiction. I like having a solid understanding of history more than I like mysteries or dramas, or whatever else there is. Besides which, some history is dramatic and mysterious. I also read books on 3D animation. We are unlikely to have a conversation about those books though, as they are incredibly boring to folks who don't animate.

Movies: I like a lot of them. Top 10 at the moment would probably be (in no particular order)

The Dark Knight

Monty Python and Now for Something Completely Different

The Matrix

LoTR Trilogy (all of 'em, but they only occupy one slot)

The Star Wars Trilogy (the original ones, again in only one slot)

Hero (the Jet Li one)

Serenity

X-Men Trilogy

12 Monkeys

aaaaaaand
Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog (not a movie in the formal sense, but I'm still counting it).

Music: Short list is Tori Amos, Sting, Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Avril Lavigne, The Bangles, SoundGarden, John Mayer... I like it when girls sing. I find that I'm willing to listen to a female singer if she's pretty good, and a male singer if he's really amazing. There's just something about the female voice. Maybe it's the fact that I don't have one.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There are amazing things happening to everyone every day. My stories are nowhere near as special as many of the others, so I won't bore you with mine.

Teach, Learn, Share

My great grandfather (my father's mother's father) taught General Jim Doolittle to box (Doolittle was well known for being a very good test pilot, and a very good boxer). I love that people can find strange and wonderful ways to touch the past. This is one way that I do it, and if anyone has anything cool that they know, I definitely want to hear it. I travel to learn, and the more you can share with me the more I will get from my trip.
