ABOUT ME

We are a young(-ish?) couple originally from Denmark who now lives in Dubai. The first time we visited Dubai we fell completely in love with the city and when we needed a change of scenery, the options were clear - we're going to Dubai!

Our computers and the Internet are great friends - keeping us connected to everything we left back home; family, friends and collegues. Just because we left the country, it doesn't mean that we didn't care for the friendships we had. We're going back and see everybody 4 times a year and it's a blast every time!

We love it here in Dubai - the sun, the beaches, the malls, the highrises, the service. Alright, it does get a bit hot - but we're in a modern city where aircon is everywhere. As long as you dont need to walk 1 kilometer to your car, you'll be fine.

A lot of people leave Dubai during Ramadan, but we chose to stay here and see what it was all about - and, despite the heat, it's one of our favorite times of year. There's peace and calm, everything slows down and the malls are stripped from stress! It's amazing!

People often ask how long we are going to stay in Dubai - and for now, the answer is: "As long as we can". We don't miss the extremely high taxes back in Denmark, we don't miss the rain - but who knows where we are in 5 or 10 years.

We are do'ers, and we will never get stuck living the same life year after year. Remember to look inwards! Your life is valuable and you need to listen to your heart and do what it begs you to do. A job and a career is worth nothing, if you don't have your heart with you.

You only have one life - live it your way.

PHILOSOPHY

You never know who you hold the door for, maybe it's your new best friend, or maybe it's the last person to have a car at the zombie apocalypse!

Always smile, always be thankful, respectful and do what you can to help others. This is one of the reasons that we host on couchsurfing - we want to give people a good experience, make friendships and hopefully give them a good story to tell when they get back home.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We started hosting in 2013 with the primary goal of helping travelers to getting a free and safe place to sleep during their stay in Dubai. The idea of giving people who are traveling on a limited budget a great experience was very intriguing.

Most days we are working from home, so this means that the type of couchsurfers we are looking to host are those who want to experience the city and see all it has to offer. We prefer that our surfers are out exploring and getting the most of it while they are with us.

This does not mean that you cannot stay in the apartment, everybody can use a day of relaxing. But we host for those who wants to see what Dubai is about - and you don't see much from our couch :-)

Usually we invite our couchsurfers out for dinner on one of our favorite restaurants in exchange for them cooking a meal from their home countries. Usually it turns out great, even for those who claims not to be good cooks! :-)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

This far we have only been hosting and have never surfed ourselves. Not sure that will change in the future as we really like our hotels! :-)

But up until now, hosting people from all over the world has really been a treat. Every single one of the people who's been with us have been great and we haven't had any bad experiences with the couchsurfing concept at all.

What we have gotten - is a lot of friends!

We both work in IT so we spend a lot of time in front of the screen at home as that's where we usually work from. It's like every other 'jobby', you don't really count the hours when you enjoy what you are doing, so maybe sometimes we spend a bit too much time there! :-)

In our sparetime we try and get out and enjoy the amazing city we live in. You have everything you can imagine just right there on your doorstep - you just have to go out and experience it.

We used to be avid gamers (MMO's like EverQuest and also a few FPS shooters like Battlefield) but we've slowly become better at getting out and doing things in the real world as well :-)

Our taste in music and movies is rather undefined. We enjoy watching the french version of 'Beauty and the Beast', the 'Twilight'-series, Disney and Pixar animations, 'Lord of the Rings' and 'The Matrix'.

With music it is the same. Lindsey Stirling with her dubstep violin, Metallica, great acapella, Ke$ha, 2CELLO, No Doubt or The GAG Quartet - it doesn't really matter much as long as it isn't out of tune :-)

We have a little problem with TV series though. Been great fans of 'The Mentalist' and 'The Big Bang Theory', but we haven't really been able to fall in love with some of the mainstream series like 'Game of Thrones' or 'Breaking Bad'. So suggestions are very welcome!

Standing in water to your knees and having 10 adult tigers running around you without leashes on - woh, that was a really fun and crazy experience!

You didn't feel unsafe though, as the staff was extremely well trained and knew what they were doing. If you like big cats - this is definitely something you cannot miss in your lifetime!

We would like to expand our knowledge about different cultures and traditions. Living in the Middle East have already given us so much, but there's no doubt that you can learn something new every day!

It would be a pleasure to hear about your travels, how you've seen different cultures and if they have been able to change how you look at them after your visiting and getting to know them in person, and not just from what you read and get from stories you hear.
