I live and work in Urmston, a suburb of Manchester in the UK. I teach Science to pupils aged 11 to 13, then Physics to pupils up to 17 years old. After graduating from Manchester university, I worked in marketing and advertising for over 14 years, then had a career change into teaching. And now... I would not consider doing any other job. I love my job, and my lifestyle with the ability to travel in the long summer holidays. This year, I'm off for 4 weeks to Mauritius, can't wait!

From my marketing job, I have always been a very sociable person, I include people in conversations and welcome people new to groups I am a part of. I would not have anyone feel excluded or uncomfortable within my presence or the group I am with. I think people have their own stories, and just because someone is not the life and soul of the party at that moment in time, does not mean they do not value the company of others.

Absolutely, love travelling and exploring the world by my self, and frustrated that I have not visited as many countries as I would have liked, but I'm working on it!

While travelling I always take the time to talk to local people and use local buses, eating establishments and entertainment venue. I generally stay away from specific events and places 'for the tourists'. Love to meet people of different cultures, taste new foods and be introduced to new ways of seeing this amazing world we are all a part of.

I've been aware of Couchsurfing for a while, but was aprehensve - but lets see!

Música, películas y libros

Love Jazz and Blues, 40's and 50's Americana including Sinatra etc. Like world music too as well as a bit of Classical every now and then. For those of you who know about the old Manchester music scene and the evolution of House music, I was a regular visitor to the Hacienda night club, and still every now and then go to Band on the Wall (a very famous music venue in Manchester) and Matt and Phred's (a Jazz bar).

Love the occasional film too, the older the better, think 'Brief Encounter, Black Narcissus, Roman Holiday, Rebel without a Cause, Breakfast at Tiffany's etc

Organised a school trip to NASA in Houston, Texas, USA. When at school I remember going home for lunch to watch the very first Space Shuttle lunch, so the though of literally being at 'Mission Control' and meeting astronauts was amazing. On arriving back at school the pupils reported back to the principle that I was not most exited person throughout the trip!

Walked on a volcano called Le Piton des neiges on La Réunion island.

From most holidays, I try and come back with the recipe of some meal in really liked. I then I try and recreate it when I am back home. In the past, when I've said that I really enjoyed a meal and wanted to know the recipe to the waiter serving me, the actual Chef came out and sat with me writing out his recipe!
