About Me
Where do I begin? probably best if it's from the beginning.
I was born and brought up in Bombay (on paper it's Mumbai, but most of us who grew up here still call it Bombay. It will never be anything else). I'm incredibly averse to small talk and go to extreme lengths to avoid it. Paradoxically (or maybe not so much) I'm constantly seeking out meaningful conversation with interesting people; sounds like a load of 'hippie hogwash' but I have always craved deep human connection and I'll be damned if I let the fear of being 'lame' take that away from me. Plus, I already know I'm cool.
Music is a big deal to me. I don't play any instruments but I listen to a LOT of music (at least 3 hours every day) and over the years, I have gotten good at it. A music recommendation newsletter I started a year ago for friends, now goes out to 1200+ subscribers and gives me more joy than the highest-paying job I've ever had. For me, travel works as an extension of that - I'm always looking up local acts playing in the places I visit.
I'm a jill of all trades, professionally as well as personally. Work-wise, I dabble in various creative projects around copy, curation, ideas and design. Personally, I have varied interests that include music, community activities such as casual quizzing - I have started a fledgling quiz club called Witty Party right here in Bombay - and even random pet projects that take my fancy. In my spare time, I like to look out the window.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
In September 2016, I accompanied my mom on a month-long trip to Europe; it was the first time out of the country for the both of us. She is a veteran CouchSurfing host, and naturally we ended up CouchSurfing for most of the trip. Looking back, I wouldn't have done it any other way - the experiences we had with the people who opened up their homes to us were indescribable and not something I can articulate here, because I couldn't do them justice. It' set in stone - I'm officially a CouchSurfer for life. Thanks mom!
