Hi there,

My name is Yorick, and I'm a 22 year old student from the Netherlands. I love traveling, and am trying to see as much of the world before I have too much responsibilities.

I am a bit shy at first, trying to gauge what kind of person I'm dealing with but that goes away after either having some good talks or drinking.

I love to explore the night life in cities, trying to meet new people but mostly to have fun! I love eating food (and preparing it, sometimes), especially sushi!

I'm perfectly happy to help around the house or do some chores as compensation! If I connect with my host, having drinks together and maybe exploring the city together would be great!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

While I love traveling, I still am a student, and prices of hostels and hotels tend to get very high when you stay for more than a couple of days. While couchsurfing I can mean something to the host, either by helping them with things, just listening to them or by introducing them to new ideas and aspects of life. The best thing, however, is to get to know people and make friends all around the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm really into techno, house and electronic music, with my favourites including artist like Worakls, Stephan Bodzin, Odesza, Porter Robinson, Madeon. When I'm in the right mood I also enjoy Indie. I love most types of music, as long as I can dance to it!

I'm not much of a movie buff, but when I do watch a movie it's either ones about space/the future, or movies tat make you think, like Transcendence, Cloud Atlas, or Inception. Adventure movies like Pirates of the Caribbean or Lord of the Rings are amazing! And secretly I love everything Harry Potter.

I'm currently reading Dan Brown's Inferno. I normally love reading fantasy, including Micheal Scott's Immortal Secrets series and Isabel Allende's Eagle and Jaguar series.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once managed to eat 25 servings of sushi and kept it all down. I'd say that's pretty amazing!
I have sung solo for 5000 people at a choir convention back in my singing days.
I have studied in Ireland for a semester and met many great friends there!

Teach, Learn, Share

I speak Dutch and English fluently, and would gladly introduce more people to my language, which has often been called the most ugly language of the world.

I also know many random facts that I will just blurt out when they seem appropriate. For instance, did you know JRR Tolkien used Dutch while constructing the language of Mordor, because he believed the uvular and scraping sounds fitted the fantasy of the language? For Elvish he used languages like French and Celtic.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Like I said, random facts. I'm also an enjoyable guy, and love to laugh! I am a quiet person, preferring to enjoy silently rather than being an overpresent performer. I can share my language of Linguistics and languages, and have some speech therapeutical skills that I can pass on.
