About Me

Yo there! It's a crazy world that we live in, huh?

I am Yotam, a world citizen.
In the past few years I found myself exploring some alternative lifestyles and places, when the most recent was living in a collective village by the Israeli desert for a few months, working in organic fruits and vegetables fields.
I worked and volunteered in various educational jobs, but mainly as a sustainability and wildlife guide.

I grow organic vegetables when I have the place to, make music and try to live as much sustainable ("eco friendly") as I can.
By the end of the day oo-long or herbal tea will do.

Been WWOOFing in some wonderful farms around this planet. Please contact me if you need help making the first steps in this world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It means a lot to me that we are able to create life that relies on mutual help and modesty rather than consumption of "services" with money.
Let's help and save each other- so our money won't be sucked by big companies that are there for wealth on the back of others- employees, environment etc.

The practical meaning of what I try to say is- let's exchange knowledge (teach each other crafts and music for free) and share resources if we are able to- such as our homes (CS, invite random travelers), cars (hitchhiking, car pulls) and tools (with our neighbors).
This way we can work less hours for our money since we don't need so much of it. And as a result- get our "lost time" back and enjoy the things we want to.

Interests

Organic urban gardening and countryside farming, birdwatching, diving, playing ukulele, piano and producing my own music in my bedroom. I had Kombucha culture in the past, I cook and ferment a lot of food when I have some home. During wintertime I go foraging mushrooms and edible plants in the woods.

I Keep myself on exploring more about economy, politics and ways to affect and make change in our world.

I'm a vegetarian (eat vegan, mainly). These days eating other animals is pretty destractive of eco systems, as well as to the one we, humans, live in. It's not a philosophical or ethical decision to me as it's a pure scientific issue that concerns me.

Music, Movies, and Books

These days these mates inspire me the most: Animal Collective, Devendra Banhart, Sufjan Stevens, Tune-Yards, Damon Albarn (blur, gorillaz), Paul Simon, Panda Bear, Alex Turner, Rostam, David Bowie and some other friends.
African music, Ethiopian in particular, and underground hip-hop does the job as well.

These days, books would be anything in and around Evolution, Anthropology, (mostly western) Philosophy and Sociology. Always willing to constantly expend my library, so feel free to recommend.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Right after high scool I established with my friends a community garden by the middle of a neighborhood in a desert- it's been a dream for years. By that time I took my ukulele at weekends, and went busking in the city's promenade to earn some money for this project. Been extreme :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I can guide you on the things mentioned above- organic gardening (yes, your tiny urban balcony can become surprisingly productive and tasty :), ukulele, and the very basics of music theory and music recording with Cubase 5.

Fine/visual arts is something I have in my mind from time to time.
Never had the opportunity to deepen though.
Would you?
