About Me

Please at least state my name in your request. My Chinese name is Yuan but I go by Zach. I don’t rly mind if a request is mass texted, but if you don't have the courtesy to address me by my name at least then I'm afraid I wouldn't be at all interested in hosting you.

Hi everyone I'm Zach from China. I'm a senior at Stanford University majoring in media and film studies.

Being a human is weird. Trying to navigate human life is even weirder. I've been asking what's the point of life since I was 10 and I have a very strong suspicion that I'll keep asking that till I die. For me the only thing in life that can't be fabricated is human connections. And that's my best proximation of an answer to the question why I live. I'm a rather private and introverted person when you meet me for the first time. But when I become close to someone I value that friendship for life. I hate meaningless socializing and I rly value the quality of the bonds you make in life with people over the quantity. And the awesome thing about Couchsurfing is that I’ve hosted at least a few guests with whom I’ve become actual friends and we visited and saw each other quite a few times since.

To summarize my current situation in one sentence would be "I don't even have a pla" I wanna go and learn Spanish in Cuba. I wanna work on an alpaca farm in New Zealand. I wanna live in the Arctic for at least a few months. I wanna learn how to drift.

When I'm not too busy having an existential crisis, I love basketball, tennis and snowboarding. I'm a hardcore LeBron fan and nearly religious when it comes to that. I'm also a Nadal fan. I'm also crazy about outdoor activities and am always up for a road trip, a hiking trip or a camping trip. I like crazy and adrenaline-pumping adventures. I try to do extreme things while I still can. I heard that the part of your brain that's in charge of fear won't get fully developed till ur 25. And I just find that to be such a pity. I wanna be reckless forever.

I also love music. I was coerced to play the violin for 13 years when I was a kid but thank god I wasn't traumatized from it and now I still love music. I play the guitar and mostly I like to sing, both as an expressive and cathartic tool and just as a thing I like to do. I always put 200 % of my emotions into every single song I sing and it's REALLY TIRING :)

I'm super passionate about language learning. I speak Mandarin, English, French and a little bit of Russian. It's my dream and prob no. 2 life goal to be a polyglot.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm a very open-minded and curious person. I enjoy learning about different cultures. I love traveling! I believe it's a wonderful platform for people of disparate backgrounds to exchange and learn from each other. I've met so many inspiring people through Couchsurfing and it's really just a wonderful thing to just share, anything at all.
