About Me

First, I am super social when I travel. I talk with whomever I'm sitting next to on the bus. I chat with vendors. I banter with people while waiting for a train. I ask for directions even when I'm pretty sure I know where I'm going. The more people you talk to, the more people learn about your journey, the more likely that someone will say, "Hey, if you don't have a place to stay, why don't you stay at my home?"

Second, I adore couchsurfing because it gives me insight into a culture that would be hard to get when you're staying at a hotel or hostel. Such insight was essential for writing my latest book:-Social and Economical Change in India

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

In the library of the world, couchsurfing isn’t just the travel section. Every time I read a couchsurfer’s profile, I get excited. It’s a way to bring traveling home. It gives you an alternative map of the city and its people, pointing you directly to those who’ll share. You find secrets that it’s much harder to as a tourist.
That night and every time I meet someone new, I learn a little bit more about the world and in turn I learn more about myself. People often say that traveling makes you more open-minded, but I think it’s the people you meet that do that, no matter where you are. If you only spend time with people inside your own everyday life, interests and culture, then averages can start to make sense. The world is full of intricacies, individuals, similarities and difference. The more you meet, the more exceptions you’ll see.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A boy - perhaps 6 yrs old, skilled equestrian - perched his young sister in front of him, and galloped around a little bit, showing off for us on a pony.  He stopped so I could take a photo - but as he stopped he smiled and reached into the air to pull something from the sky.  He showed the fly to his sister who'd clearly seen this flashy parlor trick before, then to me.   And then, he let it go. Lightning fast reflexes, symbiotic relationship to the environment, complete control and joy and peace in his world. With bliss in every breath. It was magic.
