About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Celebrate life while cooking, eating & drinking, and meet lovely people!
ABOUT ME
Before you make a couch request: we DO NOT live in AMSTERDAM. Haarlem is about 20 minutes by train, so Amsterdam could totally be part of your trip here, but Haarlem isn't Amsterdam. I seem to get a lot of requests of people thinking to spend all of their time in Amsterdam, while we love to host people who also have something else on their wish list besides Amsterdam, tulips and windmills. (Although we have a windmill in Haarlem, so that could totally be arranged.)
I'm a relaxed, down to earth and outgoing kind of person. I love eating and cooking (in that order, but it is necessary to turn them around in order to enjoy...) Cooking for people, and enjoy eating in company of a bottle of good wine is the perfect way to spend the evening. Best thing that ever happened to me was picking up schoolbooks again; Anthropology gives me insights in this slightly confusing world, helps me to understand all kinds of things, and fills me with wonder.
If you decide to surf our couch, then meet Vincent, the Guy: Even more relaxed that I am, intensely friendly and caring, and, well, he's just Vince and therefore I love him. Loves cookies, ice cream and me. Possibly in that order.
Oh, and of course, Jip the Cat. Only the coolest cat in the world.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I love to welcome travelers from all over the world, show my city and enjoy some food and a good chat. I also met a lot of people in San Francisco during my stay there, and I love to see a place through the eyes of locals. Planning on travelling more.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've met some wonderful people through couchsurfing, although I've never really surfed a couch. The one time I tried, my host helped me find my own place to stay for three months, and I moved that same day.
Lots of people have stayed with us since our first couchsurfer sincse Urška! She still has The Eternal Honour of Being The First Couchsurfer. We love her.
Interests
Eating, cooking, culture in the broadest sense, travelling, meeting new people, and sometimes just sitting, doing not very much, and talk to my cat Jip.

Music, Movies, and Books
I love everything Neil Gaiman writes. I also adore the online hero The Bloggess, her blog and her book. I also have developed a weird fandom for Maureen Johnson, and love everything she tweets (nothing will prepare you for this), writes and blogs.
Harry Potter, of course, belongs here as well. For movies, I do not pretend to be an expert. Some TV shows however are little gems: "How I met your mother" is simply brilliant.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Give up my steady job and seek my future in a life I love.
Teach, Learn, Share
I make a really good brownie (This is not entirely true. Anyone can do it with this recipe, and the credits go to Vince. But I enhanced it. A little.) I can cook a lot of other good stuff, and teach you as well. I can make you laugh, and our cat Jip is really friendly, might have a chat with you and will cover you in cat hair. With love.
