About Me

I grew up in Nova Scotia, on Canada's East Coast, and have been living in Ottawa for over 8 years. I'm an easy-going person, and get along with pretty much everyone. I love traveling, and meeting people along the way. I'm a vegetarian, a fair trade advocate, and very environmentally conscious.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My first big solo trip was in 2004, and I was instantly hooked! Since then I have travelled a lot, feeding the travel bug as much as possible.

I love meeting people when I travel. I have met amazing people through the years, both locals and fellow travellers, who have taught me so much about life, and about myself. I love sharing travel stories, and chatting with locals to learn about culture, the area i'm visiting, and ways of life. I am new to couchsurfing, and have decided to join as it will allow me to meet even more amazing people, both abroad and at home.

Interests

I enjoy knitting, reading and watching movies. I do a lot of yoga and meditation. I also love to cook. I like spending time outdoors and I'm pretty active. In the summer I do a lot of cycling, walking/jogging/hiking, and in the winter, lots of spinning, skating as some snowshoeing.

I'm really interested in nutrition and in alternative medicine. I love the arts, languages (i'm currently learning Spanish), and, of course, everything related to travel.

Music, Movies, and Books

This is a really tough one to answer, since it so hard to narrow it down! Some of my favourite authors/books are Jeffrey Eugenides (Middlesex, The Marriage Plot), Jonathan Franzen (The Corrections, Freedom), Margaret Atwood (Alias Grace, The Handmaid's Tale), John Irving (The World According to Garp, The Cider House Rules), Ann-Marie MacDonald (Fall on Your Knees, The Way the Crow Flies). I also loved The Poisonwood Bible (by Barbara Kingsolver), The Book of Negroes (by Lawrence Hill), A Fine Balance (by Rohinton Mistry), Pillars of the Earth and World Without End (by Ken Follett). I could go on an on... but i'll stop here. :-)

As for films, equally as difficult! I watch a lot of foreign films, and like pretty much every genre, except horror and sci-fi. I also enjoy watching a good tv series from time to time. I'm currently watching Breaking Bad, and loving it!

I like many different types of music, including jazz, blues, folk, bluegrass, rock, pop... I don't particularly like rap or heavy metal.
