Enjoying the year off/sabbatical year

ABOUT ME

Felix and I have a sabbatical (one year off from work) and travel together from September 23 to July 24 through South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand. We are married since 2022. Both of us are non-smokers.

My description (Yvonne):
I like honest and authentic conversations. I am very open about the topics. I am a good listener and curious to hear other opinions, experiences and stories. I don't take any encounter for granted, but rather try to see each one as an enrichment.
I am environmentally conscious and love nature, so I try to produce little waste. I almost never buy takeaway food or coffee to go. I prefer to cook, preferably healthy with lots of vegetables. I am a pescatarian, meaning I eat fish but no meat.
I need exercise every day. Be it swimming, hiking, fitness, beach volleyball or cross-country skiing in winter. But that doesn't mean that I'm not open to other ideas. I would spontaneously like to go on a kayak tour, a bike tour with or without luggage or a dance workshop. In general, I like to try new things. But I also relax by, for example, going for a walk with an audio book/podcast, watching a film in the evening or eating. I am a very sociable person and enjoy doing things with friends (picnic in the countryside for example).
I am very punctual and reliable (some prejudices must be true ;-) I also value these qualities in others. I would consider myself pretty neat.

Felix' description:
I like being around people, but I can also be very good on my own. I like doing sports, especially team sports. I play inline hockey twice a week. In contrast to Yvonne, I don't need a daily exercise program; I can also spend the day in the museum. I'm excited about the history and culture of where I am right now. I eat almost everything (excluding pork, offal and durian ;-)). I love going to the pub every now and then. Freshly tapped beer is a dream. My friends describe me as reliable, considerate and attentive.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I hosted two guests in my ex-flat. Since we were two flatmats my roommate got the two references for the hosting.
I participated in some couchsurfing meeting and I enjoyed couchsurfing a lot of times while travelling. Together with Felix I made wonderful experiences through Couchsurfing during our sabbatical. Whenever we are allowed to be in someone's home, we try to give something back. And if we have the opportunity in our apartment after our return, we would like to give the many great experiences back to other surfers.
