About Me

I'm a music geek from a small town in Colorado in my home state teaching kiddos and slinging whiskey sometimes on the side. I spent two years living in Hanoi, Vietnam teaching English as a Second Language, with one year in-between backpacking Europe while teaching online. I'm a music producer and also play drums in a couple local bands. I like cheesy horror movies, going to concerts and learning everything I can. I studied abroad in Japan for a semester in college and have had rampant wanderlust ever since.

Been surfing on here on and off for years, and now that I'm on my home turf for a while, it's time to pay back the favor! I'm fully vaxxed and looking to travel vicariously through you lovely souls while being boring and having a job and completing grad school classes.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It's an amazing tool for meeting some cool people, learning interesting new things, and experiencing other places in a more personal way than you would've experienced them otherwise.

MY COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
So far, I have Couchsurfed in Taiwan, Canada, Belgium, France, Ukraine, Hungary, Japan and the United States. I've loved it each time and I can't wait to do it again. Staying in hostels is cool and all, but Couchsurfing leads to far more memorable, one-of-a-kind trips.

Interests

I've played drums in bands for years and also write my own music. I've always been a film geek and made strange student films for years when I was younger. Love a good book, love writing fiction and nonfiction, and obviously enjoy travel (who doesn't on this website??). Linguistics, languages, history and philosophy are also preferred topics of conversation.

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC
Oh boy, where do I start. Music is essentially my life, so it's hard to sum up in a couple of sentences, but some of my all-time favorites are The Smiths, Ramones, Brand New, The National, Against Me!, Death Grips, John Maus, Joyce Manor, Chromatics and The Cure. Let's talk about music.

MOVIES
I love trashy horror films, artsy indie dramas and everything in-between. The Shining, Dead Alive, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, A Christmas Story, Dawn of the Dead, Eraserhead, American Beauty, Little Miss Sunshine, Psycho, Inception, Halloween, Confessions (告白), House (ハウス), Requiem for a Dream, The Evil Dead I & II, Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

BOOKS
The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Green Mile, Ubik, everything Oscar Wilde, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, 1984, House of Leaves, Cloud Atlas, The Unbearable Lightness of Being. On a bit of a non-fiction kick lately, though, reading lots of history books, pop psychology, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was 17, I wrote and directed a feature-length horror-comedy film for $100 that turned out so horrifically bad, I've never shown it to anyone that wasn't involved in making it.

I conquered my fear of children and now teach a class full of them! 8th grade was one of the worst years of my life, and now trying to make other kiddos' 8th grade years not-so-bad!

Teach, Learn, Share

Hey, if you're still reading this, you rock. If you want to stand out in your surfing request to me, include a link to a song or album you've been listening to a lot recently.

Bonus points if you can help me out with my Japanese (日本語を話したい!) or you are competent in the kitchen (unlike myself).

What I Can Share with Hosts

I will most definitely help out around the house with anything you need. I am a huge fan of deep conversations, and I'll try and tell you some cool stories too! Plus, I'll buy you some beer or something :)
(P.S. I'll also give you killer music and movie recommendations if you like!)
