About Me

Hello! My name is Zach I love to travel and meet all the beautiful people in the world! I just finished an 8 month solo backpacking trip in Southeast Asia that challenged me in every way possible! In many instances I had to rely on strangers I had just met and through these experiences shattered every expectation and preconceived notion I had regarding interacting with strangers (now aka friends you havent met yet). At the end, I found that it was these connections with the people I met, both locals and fellow travelers that I cherish the most from my travels.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Pretty much what I wrote in my bio!

The town I grew up in in the states had a "bubble effect" for those living in it. There was not much interaction with various cultures or people who challenged your ideas or beliefs. After living/working in a Zambian hospital a few years ago I was blown away by the different ways people lived and interacted with each other. It was raw and communal, and such a different human experience then I was used to. After experiencing this, I knew I needed to travel and meet any/everybody I could, and to learn/understand/appreciate the different cultures of the world.

Now that I am back home I want to continue meeting people from around the world! So I am trying to be as active of a member here as I can given the means I have at my disposal!

Interests

I've recently really gotten into rock climbing and want to do as much climbing while abroad as possible!

I generally just love being active outdoors and meeting people with similar preferences. I love pushing myself and other to our max as I feel there's no better way to get more out of the amazing world we live in.

I also enjoy learning about local cuisine and how to cook it.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Anything. I can't really classify my music tastes.
Books: I'll try to read anything someone suggests. I have a bad habit of not being able to put down a book once I start reading, so I have to be careful with what I start to read. I love game of thrones, the omnivore's dilemma, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Life of PI...idk seriously I'll try anything!
Movies: I'm less into movies to be honest. That said, I love a good movie that has you walk away deep in thought for a while!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Worked in a Zambian hospital emergency department for 2 months
