About Me

** I am fully vaccinated against COVID-19 **

[EN] I am a gay boy from the US, currently living in Tamarindo, Costa Rica, as a location independent English teacher and freelance architectural designer since mid 2019. I lived in France for 2 years, which changed my life. Then 8 years later, I quit my corporate architecture job, sold everything, and boarded a one-way flight to Costa Rica, where I now live with amazing friends. I am a chill, open-minded subversive and traveler seeking balance and good energy in life - half extrovert half introvert! Generally minimalist, polyamorous, vegetarian. When the world is safer from COVID-19, I would like to launch into a 1-2 year slow backpacking trip through 9 countries in South America, and then who knows where after! I am looking for travel partners, so please write me if you want to travel together!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

[EN] I appreciate the value of travel, the chance to see yourself outside your own nationality, to envision your life outside a country of origin, and to develop the tools to navigate intercultural difference. I find it difficult to find any authenticity, satisfaction, or purpose living a typical 9-5 life, and so I am going down the nomad path to find friends - and maybe a romantic partner (or partners haha) - who are looking for alternative ways of living beautiful, fun, and healthy lives together! I also appreciate the authenticity in having non-transactional relationships during travel, and think it is important to build social systems like CS that give alternatives to the capitalist system we live in. I look forward to meeting more new friendly faces in new places around the world!

Interests

[EN] Language is beautiful to me, and I think somehow you gain a new soul when you learn a new language. Countries are beautiful to me - specifically as beautiful places that belong to everyone. I enjoy being immersed in someone else’s culture and believe we are all global citizens. I love experiencing new places, urban and rural. I care about helping society, addressing systemic injustice, learning about human history, and being a part of efforts to improve the world. I keep health and nutrition as normal daily pleasures, eating and cooking good food, walking, biking, enjoying nature.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: dirty irreverent techno, house, nu disco, vogue, western pop, Latin pop, K-pop, reggae, bluegrass, country pop (Shania)
Movies: good cinematography/ production, dark comedies, witches, vampires, LGBTQ, documentaries, independent, multilingual (especially in français, español, or deutsch)
Books: not reading a lot these days - but recent reads were tech thrillers and mysteries, and before that some non fiction about imperialism

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I decided to live abroad.
I decided to learn another language. And then another.
I swam naked with a group of guys in a hot spring river, deep in the mountains of Iceland, watching the Northern Lights in pure darkness.
I celebrated *someone else's* Independence Day (in France and Chile).
I experienced the kindness of strangers in northern Morocco, who stopped on the side of the road in the mountains at night to help me after my car got stuck.
I had an out-of-body experience. *o*

Teach, Learn, Share

[EN] We can explore Heredia or San José together, or maybe take a trip somewhere further around the country. I am still new to Costa Rica, so there is a lot that I want to explore! We can share some coffee or some local dishes, and of course good conversation. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I have really missed going out to dance electronic music. Hopefully it will be safe to do it again soon! Happy to meet new people, to spend some time getting to know you, and hopefully to help you have a great time in Costa Rica!

What I Can Share with Hosts

[EN] I really look forward to getting to know you and being open to the ways you like to live, what is cool about your city or country, and what makes you happy. Depending on your availability, I am content to be more independent or to do some things together with you, if you have time. Look forward to meeting you!
