About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travel and give high fives.

ABOUT ME

I am a second grade teacher teaching in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and I live with my wife. We love this country and love going down to the local market every weekend to snag a durian or other deliciousness. Come say hello!

PHILOSOPHY

Share everything.
Play fair.
Don't hit people.
Put things back where you found them.
Clean up your own mess.
Don't take things that aren't yours.
Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.
Wash your hands before you eat.
Flush.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Live a balanced life -
Learn some and think some
And draw and paint and sing and dance
And play and work everyday some.
Take a nap every afternoon.
When you go out into the world,
Watch out for traffic,
Hold hands and stick together.
Be aware of wonder.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have an extra room for anyone that would like to visit the city. It is nicely located about 10 minutes by taxi from District 1, but also right on a bus route if you are like us and like the buses here.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've only got the chance to sleep on a few couches, but all of these experiences have been so memorable. My favorite one was in Ecuador, and I stayed at a really nice, like minded host's house in Quito. He went out of his way to show me the city, even taking me all the way to see the equator museum. He refused to let me pay for anything, and would always pop around the corner with something tasty that he bought for me to try. That is what Couchsurfing is all about.

Interests

Deep frying, politics, reading by candlelight, street food, architectural mistakes, brewing beer, "off the beaten trail", hiking and exploring, sticks to ward off dogs, teaching kids new things, identifying strengths in students, goldfish crackers, basketball, the NES, finding errors in travel guides, Deaf culture, a bucket of golf balls, campfires, sleeping in, making popcorn, my favorite taco truck, and standing up on my couch and pretending to surf.

Music, Movies, and Books

I ONLY enjoy reading terrible decodable readers with my low achieving students.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've painted the walls of Chefchaouen, Morocco blue, and I've killed guinea pigs with my bare hands in Peru. I've also seen my Deaf mom speaking Spanish in a Peruvian combi, and sung Karaoke to an old man in Japan. Life is good.

Teach, Learn, Share

American Sign Language is language of my home, and something that I am always exited to share with people. I love learning languages, and will be overly enthusiastic to practice my French and Spanish with you.

Countries I’ve Visited
