Overview
About Me
My name is Zac, but a lot of people know me under the name Forefeather.
I'm a hip-hop artist, idea generator, teacher, etc... I do a lot of different things.
I come from a family of yogis (my mom, dad, sister and myself are all Kripalu-certified yoga teachers), and I love learning, talking about, and spreading good ideas and inspiration on how to live the fullest possible life, but am also a huge fan of bullshitting over a few beers. I spend my time these days trotting the globe and performing inquiry-based rap music (that I like to call "zen-hop"), as well as teaching yoga and leading workshops about yoga philosophy, leadership, creativity, skillful living, and flow.
If you're interested in learning more about what I do, you can take a look around at http://www.forefeather.com/ or just let me know. I'd love to connect!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota before I moved to the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health for a year long residential internship for most of 2015. Having honed my skills as a hip-hop artist since 2009 and studied yoga and mindfulness deeply since 2013, I decided to fully commit to my work as a performer and presenter when my internship at Kripalu ended.
I will be traveling a lot next Spring - leading a yoga retreat in Bali, performing and presenting at different festivals around the world throughout festival season - and until then, I'm in the process of exploring possibilities, opportunities, and potential for a partnership between myself and New York City. What I mean by that is I'm out here in NYC to see if it's where I want to be for a while.
I know a lot of folks that have told me I can stay with them for various chunks of time out here, but I don't want to overstay my welcome anywhere, so I'm finally making use of the (previously inactive) Couchsurfing profile I've had set up for a few years.
Interests
Meeting new people, having deep conversations about life, having shallow conversations about silly shit, music (especially hip-hop, but including most everything else), yoga, dancing, art, food, wine, beer. I'm interested in learning about what lights people up. Actually, I run a podcast about that very topic.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music that makes the body move. Dope brass bands. Skillful raps. Folk with soul. See, it all depends on the time and place. There's so much good music out there... I spend a lot of time concocting the dopest Spotify playlists actually. Check it: https://open.spotify.com/user/1228459076
I like movies that don't feel like a waste of time. Super down for a scary movie or an epic crime saga here and there.
Books are wonderful. I just read Ishmael for the first time. So good. So good.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I used to solo lead a lot of wilderness trips. I once had to facilitate a helicopter evacuation of a teenager who tore a hole in his stomach lining while we were off-trail in the Beartooth Mountains. Without a satellite phone. Stressful situation. Long story. He survived though.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I would be super down to share private or group session yoga classes with my hosts. I would be super down to host an event or throw a rap show for my hosts. I'll write some lyrics about you into a song if you like. I can offer some life-coaching, perhaps? I'm a great conversationalist...? I can offer you all sorts of delightful conversation. Oh, I'll probably leave you with a copy of my album too, if you happen to dig what I do.
