About Me

CURRENT ADVENTURE
My Wife Karen and I got married in June, quit our jobs in April, and are traveling for our honeymoon in Europe for 3.5 months!

Before our wedding we did a "pre-moon" trip where we focused on healthy living, wellness, and intimacy in Costa Rica & Califonria - and are now on our honeymoon adventure in Europe.

We plan top visit ~10-12 countries and fill our travels with a sound healing training program, hiking treks, sightseeing, sailing, van-life, and everything else in between.

Our adventures in Europe are designed to be mini "prototypes" of our potential future together... helping us explore if we really want to pursue different possible lives / lifestyles.

We've been having a blast learning about different cultures, learning to communicate

ABOUT ZACH

I'm a fun, passionate person who loves to try new things and experience a lot of adventures. I will tear it up on the dance floor if you let me. I like interesting conversations. I like to help people think through finding their passions.

I am curious about most things and like to teach people stuff I've learned. I wear my heart on my sleeve. I like all sorts of people - so long as they have a passion for something. I love puns.

I've worked in business / innovation / design/product management in a lot of industries... and will geek about about almost any topic.

ABOUT KAREN
Karen is an avid yogi, coffee lover, and "most fun aunt" to 8 nieces and nephews. She always helps people feel calm, relaxed, safe, seen and celebrated. She is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet and is relentlessly supportive.

Karen has been an amazing, compassionate caregiver for most of her career; and now is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) focused on mental health.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW WE PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Karen and I want to connect with people while traveling on our honeymoon and learn new things along the way. We like to go on adventures and learn about people's stories, dreams, and passions.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I like to meet like-minded people on the road while traveling. I've stayed with a few people years ago, but recently returned to the platform. I enjoy helping them think through their ideas, opportunities or challenges, and love sharing my story and tales of adventure.

Interests

I enjoy cooking, snowboarding, hiking, eating, telling jokes, exploring, speculating about new ideas, reading, surfing, writing.

Music, Movies, and Books

Lately I am loving Spotify and jamming out to The Shins, Nick Drake, Alabama Shakes, and Iron and Wine. I've always been a huge Bob Dyaln fan and like classic rock. I like jazz too.

I love Seinfeld (because every awkward moment to happen ever has been depicted on the show), The Office, and Modern Family. I try not to watch much TV.

Six books have changed my thinking about the world:
The Dude and the Zen Master
Cradle to Cradle by William McDonough;
What's Mine is Yours by Rachel Botsman;
Disrupting Class by Clayton M. Christensen;
Peace is Every Step by Thich Nhat Hanh;
Blah, Blah, Blah, What to Do When Words Don't Work by Dan Roam

They shaped my ideas about my career, education, and life philosophy.

I also love Alan Watts and his thinking (check out video below if you haven't seen Alan Watts)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I took a NOLS course where we went on a trip back-country snowboarding in the Tetons in ID. Spent 10 days winter camping, building snow shelters and riding epic powder lines. It was cold. And difficult.

I learned what you don't experience positively, you will experience negatively.
