About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Let's make this freelance thing sustainable!
ABOUT ME
I just finished my degree in Visual Cultures/Art History at London. Now I am doing freelance filming/writing/translating for a few more months here in London. Always amazed by how nice people are on couchsurfing and willing to get to know make more friends through both hosting and surfing. And yes I tend to complain that I haven't travelled enough quite often.
PHILOSOPHY
Rationality does not work all the time!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've hosted and surfed, was absent on couchsurfing for a year, because the house I lived in last year was not ideal for any couchsurfing. Now I've moved into a new flat with my good friends and you would find this flat friendly place!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Apart from hosting , surfing, and travelling with other CSers. I've also been tour guided by people who can't host me, which is a fantastic way to get to know a city.
Interests
Films films films, I make short documentaries and experimental films, and watching films through the projector at my room or other friends' places are the most common ways to hangout!
Film viewings are always following a nice home-made dinner! Cooking is something that never bores me, I enjoyed cooking and especially cooking for a crowd! Getting to know more local food (and learn how to cook them) is always a mission when travelling.
Some people say they never Karaoked before, how is that possible? Sorry for being a bit too east asian here, but yes, singing and karaoking is ddefinitely my thing. Not that I am good at it or anything, but think it's a good way of expressing myself.
Of course making art and seeing art is going to be life-long hobby, I just started making some videos and so far the process has been fansinating.
Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Latin music would works for me,( becuase I am learning Spanish now!!) I also enjoy Chinese music in its 80s and 90s. Not going to name specific artist, but increasingly I find lyrics matters a lot to me. It's strange that now having lived in England for more than 2 years, I am not listening to more some in English compared to the times before in China, but still never say no to good tunes!
Films: Got more interested in Documentaries on issues of conflicts/politics/migration. Watching good Comedy is always a pleasure, not a guilty pleasure.
Tend to read more non-fictions these days, guess I am quite stuck with the art history studies. Books on Post-colonial studies/ Political Sciences and philosophy/ Social conflicts/Contemporary Art are what make most of my bookshelf.
For literature, Beidao's essays fascinate me , Started to listening to audiobooks when jogging now (not during the winter in London though :(.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Buy the ticket for the next day and travel to another continent? That's how I get to Colombia.
But really, the most amazing thing is just being who I am, and be true to myself and others.
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach: Cooking Chinese food, or my own 'fusion' recipes? Can't promise to make nice food all the time, but so far reviews from others have been great!
Probably Mandarin as well? Never tried teaching but I am confident at my pronunciation. Used to work at the student's broadcast station, and gave guided tour around Chinese Porcelain and Dutch Delftware in a museum, so I suppose I have a bit of knowledge on that.
Learn: I would love to learn another language, especially Spanish,( infact that's my new years' resolution in 2013) and that's something a lot of friends of mine have been encourage me to do! and taking some singing lessons would be a great idea!
