Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Getting around to doing that thing I should do...at some point.
ABOUT ME
I'm a college student who loves film, linguistics, opera, literature and most other things. I love to experience and learn about other cultures and want desperately to leave the U.S.
PHILOSOPHY
I may be tilting at windmills, but what else is there worth tilting at around here?
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Just joined, I want to try surfing and I'd love to host once I get my own place.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've gone couchsurfing once in Munich and it was amazing!
Interests
Filmfilmfilm, seriously I love film, but I also love pretty much all performing arts, theatre (musical and...non-musical?), opera, mime, kabuki, ballet etc. I'm also really into linguistics, I love to look into the underlying grammar and logic of different languages, through examining a language, one can really start to see what makes a culture tick, I want to learn as many as I can. As of right now, I'm pretty well-established in German, I'm on my way with Japanese, and I've just started learning French.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: Way too many to list but my top 5 are: Stalker (Andrei Tarkovsky), Wings of Desire (Wim Wenders), Berlin Alexanderplatz (Rainer Fassbinder), 8 1/2 (Federico Fellini), and Izo (Takashi Miike). I'm also a huge fan of Werner Herzog's. I love Godard and Resnais. I really, really like surrealism in film so Buñuel, Lynch, Jodoroswky, and especially Guy Maddin are some of my favorites. I'm just now trying to locate and watch some Weereasathakkul and Bela Tarr films as well. Oh...also Sam Fuller, just to throw in someone who doesn't fit in with any of this list.
Music: Kazuki Tomokawa, what a guy. Also Tom Waits, Philip Glass, Alban Berg (Wozzeck is my favorite opera), Wagner, and Captain Beefheart among other things.
Books: A Confederacy of Dunces, Berlin Alexanderplatz, Lolita, The Crying of Lot 49, Catch-22.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Interned at the Cannes film festival, got the opportunity to see many amazing films and meet many wonderful people while working there.
Teach, Learn, Share
Well, I can talk forever about film, clearly. I just generally love the arts, and I love finding people who like them as well so we can talk, share opinions, discuss, analyze, and experience great art together. Also culture and language, I don't know so much about *teaching* someone, but I'd love to discuss things with people with varying viewpoints.
