About Me

Update 2021: Living in the pacific coast, discovering my own country and getting to know amazing people.

By the moment I can not host but I’m looking forward metting people and show you a little about local culture.

This is Omar from Oaxaca, Mexico. I´m originally from a small community in the north of Oaxaca which is part of the many diverse indigenous towns this state has.

Well, I like hosting guests when it is possible for me, when life sometimes becomes work and more work, it is such a nice pleasure to host a guest who inspires you, or teach you something that you didn´t know. I enjoy having guests sharing a little of their culture with me. I really consider guests who read my profile at least.
Mostly, I host one person because my place is quite small. Sometimes I will not be able to host anybody because of personal circumstances, however, we can meet up, have a walk or grab a drink. Couchsurfing is not only about hosting but also about unexpected plans as meetings.

Oaxaca is a nice place to visit, it is home of a indigenous heritage, an exotic place for everyone´s senses, full of colors and unknown flavors. I like to say "Huaxyacac" (from the nahuatl language) is the culinary capital of Mexico, land of the "Seven Moles" (sauces with dozen of ingredients) and capital of "Mezcal" (liquor made from maguey agave).

I'm not good at describing myself, I prefer to be described as my guests think they feel when staying with me.

I live close to downtown, it only takes 10 minutes to get to Oaxaca center.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When traveling, CouchSurfing becomes a great chance to get to know new people and live amazing experiences but that also means being capable of understanding that the treasure behind traveling does not necessarily mean being on holidays.
Traveling does not mean that you are going to stay in a hotel.
Traveling does not mean that you should expect to have all kinds of comforts. Traveling does not mean that you are going to eat only in “good places”.
Traveling does not mean hiring a Tour Operator in order to visit the city. attractions (unless the attractions have a difficult access or the tour cost is almost the same as if you were going independently).
Traveling does not mean only pleasure and relax.
Traveling does not mean that you´re going to visit only “beautiful places”.
Traveling does not mean that you are going to lie down on a beach to have a Piña Colada.
Traveling does not mean that you will always be with your friends or relatives.

Traveling means having contact with different people.
Traveling means getting to know (at least superficially) different cultures, traditions or customs.
Traveling means making friends from all kinds of backgrounds, religious beliefs, occupations, sexual orientations, etc.
Traveling means learning from different cultures and opening up your mind to different world views.
Traveling means getting used to different cultures.
Traveling means that sometimes you have to go through difficult or dangerous situations.
Traveling means that not everything is relax and pleasure but also sadness, insecurity or distress.
Traveling means that sometimes you´re not going to sleep well but in poor conditions.
Traveling means that you can visit fantastic places on a low budget.
Traveling means that many times you will be alone and there will be nobody to help you out, but on the way you have the possibility to make new friends.
Traveling means that you´re going to visit sad places but you´re going to learn from them.
Finally, traveling means to understand that the best way to know a different culture is staying with local people rather than in hostels. THAT´S WHAT COUCHSURFING IS ABOUT.

Music, Movies, and Books

I´m interested in all kinds of music and open to hear new ones, because they all have something to say. But mostly I like "rancheras" which is a mexican particular genre, this traditional music that brings to me undescribed feelings and particular thoughts. I can mention Lola Beltrán, Lucha Villa, Jose Alfredo Jimenez.
