ABOUT ME
A portion of an article a friend posted about our trip in Vietnam:“Should we get another?” Zack asked me in an exasperated and slightly anxious voice.“Might as well,” I replied evenly.Zack trotted off to get two more Bia Hanoi, and I reflected that Zack was a good travel companion. He wasn’t exasperated that our tour guide was late due to some notion of entitlement. He was exasperated because he was so excited about our Vietnamese culinary adventure that the delay, to quote P.G. Wodehouse, was causing him to writhe like an electric fan in anticipation.Zack is a made up of perplexing contradictions: a large man with the temperament of a teddy bear, a medical student who is a strident alcoholic and a man who criticizes what others wear but pays no attention to fashion when dressing himself. I often describe him to other travelers as a puppy that has grown into a lumbering dog but doesn’t realize it. He stands 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs about two hundred and forty pounds. He sports an impressive, red beard that often causes him to be mistaken for Zach Galifianakis on the street. His impressive size and beard, however, are made less intimidating by his penchant for wearing flannel dress shirts and uncomfortably short shorts. For our visit to snake village, Zack had decided to wear wing-tipped boots and had a purple bandana around his neck in addition to his diminutive shorts. If a mullet were to wear shoes, they’d be wing-tipped boots. Zack was business from the floor to the ankles, but above that he was a cross between Reno 911’s Officer Dangle, a gay pirate and Paul Bunyan.http://lifearoundtheworld.net/?paged=2
