Overview
About Me
I'm from the States, I moved to Aberdeen for grad school after spending a few years hopping around Asia working as a henchman to a mad scientist. I have made it routine to drop everything and disappear to some strange place whenever I get that nomadic itch. I'll take any excuse to travel, near or far, as I am in love with the uniquely liberating emotions I experience during a journey.
I try to breath deeply and speak gently.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I first joined when I graduated from my undergraduate program and found the site great for travelling in Asia on a post-school budget. I find myself in the same position now that I've finished my masters degree.

Music, Movies, and Books
Currently reading: a lot of scholarly stuff about climate change for my dissertation. I read boring science articles and get excited by them. I then try to excite other people about what I've learned. It often works, I can spin a yarn like none other. When I'm not reading those, I read magazines.... I like the Economist, National Geographic, and Wired. I enjoy short fiction because I can read more of it, and the occasional novel finds its way through the cracks. I read a lot. And a variety. Ask me what I'm reading.
I READ COMICS! There, I said it. I've lately enjoyed Saga, Fatale, DMZ, and Northlanders.
Movies: I like sci-fi horror best. Alien is a beautiful film. I like things that creep me out, have a continuing storyline, involve H. J. Benjamin, or come highly recommended by highly likable people. I'm a Venture Brothers fan-boy.
Music: I like it. I listen to it. I can find something in any genre. Suggest something. :)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Before grad school I worked as a research assistant in the Himalayas for college-level fieldwork courses in ecology. I thought that was pretty neat.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach the fine art of brewing alcohol from grains and fruits. Furthermore, I can distil their essential spirits and infuse them with fine flavors. This makes me a wizard.
I am an amateur photographer, but travelling alongside better photographers than myself has taught me a trick or two I could share. I especially enjoy extended exposures and creating camera obscura.
What is this section about anyway?
