About Me

Hi, my name is Zen, and I grew up in Australia, so I love nature and I’m super interested in getting to know people and seeing the world (which seems to be the common sentiment on here).
I’m always up to try anything (especially food), and I’m really independent, but that won’t stop me from helping out wherever I can, I’m building up my arsenal of recipes too.
Growing up in Australia, I’ve lived in many places from the bush to the beach, and stayed with a wide range of people. I’ve worked in customer service & barista at a bakery, some food stands at markets, an Italian gelato bar, and an adventure centre with kids of all ages.
Just recently finished my High School Certificate, and now I’m casually searching for what I’d like to do with my life.

At the moment I’m backpacking through Europe and thoroughly enjoying myself doing it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My first experience with Couchsurfing was on my Europe trip (still going), and I fell in love with meeting people from around the world. Everyone has a unique perspective and a story to tell and I believe that everyone should write a book about themselves.

Most of my life I’ve lived in different places with different people, I’ve learned how to live in a shared space, and it’s hard to imagine a life without some type of movement in my social life.

I’ve heard so many amazing stories and made so many friends already, and I think it makes the world a bit of a better place. I hope people continue to keep the spirit alive.

Interests

I love exploring, seeing sights, experiencing places, going on hikes and walks and being around nature. Sometimes people have had to tell me to stop walking because I could go forever when there’s more to see. But I can control it now.

Another big passion of mine is architectural design and visual arts, mostly always I have a sketchbook on me and I could really nerd out on design and art if you let me. Do lots of studying buildings.— also art history and all that jazz. I find it very interesting.

And food, who could forget food. I don’t think there’s anything that I wouldn’t give a try, I love how food shapes the world and brings people together, and sometimes the simplest things taste so good. I try my best at cooking and know a few nice recipes, but I love making a dish with someone else too. I’m vegetarian when I can be. When travelling I think it’s hard to close yourself off to the food culture. But I think living sustainably and ethically is really important.

Music, Movies, and Books

I’m a huge lover of music, mostly alt-rock, funk and hip hop, though every time I hear something it’s hard not to become at least a little invested. Have previously loved Radiohead, Pixies, the Chilli Peppers, surprisingly Taylor Swift, Frank Ocean, LCD Soundsystem, The Cure, Hall & Oats, The Strokes, Tyler (iykyk), Morcheeba, and many many more

I really like a creative movie or one that makes me think, a recent favourite was ‘He died with a falafel in his hand’—and the classics of course.

I really enjoy a good book, but while studying I found it tough to get a chance to read so much and my list isn’t as long as I’d like. I think I like reading more than watching content in the long run, and I’m pretty into writing and reading, I can definitely analyse a text 😵💫.
In general I like a thriller, or historical fiction.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One amazing experience I’ve had was getting to skydive on the east coast of Australia, something about falling through clouds at such a height and being able to see the world (the mountains, ocean, and people) from that perspective is just so invigorating and I think everyone should give it a go

Teach, Learn, Share

If you really want to pick up a new skill, I’d be happy to tell you what I know. Studied Visual arts at school, and also a lot in my own time, also bit of theatre, guitar, and judo.
I really try to learn as much about different languages as I can when I visit places, I find it so interesting, and also cuisine.
(I can share some family recipes if you’re into that too)

If you can skate or snowboard as well, hook me up.
And if you’re a historian then that’s even better

What I Can Share with Hosts

I’d love to help out wherever I can around the place, with cleaning, cooking, or any random projects you have—and I mean that.
I can grab some groceries or whatnot to cook with, i hope basically that you get as good of an experience as me.
And I can always share a good conversation, but that’s standard.
