About Me
🇨🇳🏳️🌈
[Update] Been living in Shanghai since July 2019. Don't have a place spacious enough to host but keen to connect.
If you're into hiking/other outdoor stuff, concerts (classical mostly) and shows, video games, food, art/cultural trips, then let's hang already!

*******************************************ARCHIVE (as in if you read something stupid from below text, I've outgrown it now!*********************************************
A little heads up if you want to stay with me and my roommates in case you missed 'My Home' section:
(1) Although the apartment is big enough, there are currently 4 people living here and you'll be in the common room. See 'My Home' for detail.
(2) We're in Hyde Park, south of Chicago.
(3) No one-night requests please.
It would help me schedule if you sent a request at most one week in advance. Last-minute, spontaneous stays welcome :)
Hidden gem for reading:
Whether you end up staying with me or not, feel free to check out this list I made of interesting places and things to do in Chicago:

Note: Work in progress. Couchsurfers also contribute.
Graduate student from China studying at the University of Chicago. Hungry for interesting stories of interesting people. Always passionate about art, be it photography, drawing, clothing, interior design or music.
Logic helps me survive. Aesthetics let me live.
Role model: Anthony Bourdain (what a perfect personality)
What I'm best at:
-Getting lost at crossroads with Google map in my hand
-Expropriating art from the museum and put it on my wall
-Soaking in music and languages like a sponge
-Figuring out recipes as I cook
-Eating A LOT and not gaining a gram
I wish I had more interesting photos to post up here, but I usually take pictures of what I see instead of myself (cameras petrify me). I'm not super good at posing for cool travel-themed pics :/ Teach me maybe? Also, I'm not violent but I always imagine myself throwing a shoe at visitors who take selfies with artifacts or themselves "appreciating" them :)

Music, Movies, and Books
Books - 1984, Greek mythology...(I don't read as much as I should. And if visual"mindedness is a thing, then I am that :)
Movies and TV - too many to count and hard to pick. Foregoing Hollywood cheap thrills. Anything exploring the extremes of how human nature plays out and speaking to relevant social issues is a good pick. Dark (even ruthless) humor is the best! More sarcasm and comedic cynicism please! Pixar rarely disappoints!
Music - I try not to have a pattern. Soul, funk, jazz, RnB (and the amazing fusions), some classical, some club/house, some folk and some alt/indie. PIANO IS THE BEST - instant turn on (not sexually but probably better).
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Couchsurfing! Can't find a better answer.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you (my understandings of) the essentials of Chinese cooking. That being said, I wouldn't say I am good enough in anything to be a teacher of it. To me, the most valuable interactions are the ones where we each learn something new and different from what we have experienced. I wish to be continuously informed, humbled and inspired.
I'm eager to learn about everything through the eyes of locals, be it as grand and abstract as society and culture, or as down-to-earth and vivid as home cooking and street art.
Some things I enjoy doing the most with surfers: eating out; cooking at home; exploring cool bars; walks by the lake; talking about everything.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Good conversations over your pick of alcohol, and a homemade (possibly improvised) meal!
