ABOUT ME

I am a cultural tourist. When I travel to another country, I always like to travel the paths less taken by other people and to experience parts of a country that hasn't been tarnished by unsustainable tourism.

Before I entered University, I served as a paratrooper and a pathfinder in the Singapore Army for 2 years as part of my conscription service (all males have to serve in the military for 2 years when they turn 18). It made me more mentally resilient and exposed me to a very different aspect of life as compared to being a civilian.

I study Mechanical Engineering at the National University of Singapore. Outside of travelling, I love discovering how things work, solving problems and aeroplanes. I am also am amateur triathelete, a "weekend warrior" of the road. I minor in history and consider myself an amateur military historian.

I am also a PADI SCUBA Divemaster! Worked on an island called Tioman in Malaysia during my gap year before I started college.

I like to meet people and share stories and experiences.
One of the things I love about backpacking is really about meeting new people as much as it is about seeing new places.
I am an "ENTJ" on the "Myers-Briggs Type Indicator"
I'm an extrovert, I work well with people around me and I enjoy the company of all the different types of people I meet.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have couchsurfed through Europe (Portugal, Spain, Germany and Italy) in the winter of 2012 and enjoyed every single moment of it - meeting new and different people from all walks of life , interacting with their local friends and learning so much about the culture and food.

I initially started because it is a cheap way of travelling, but as I surfed and met new people, I begin to realize the beauty in couchsurfing is not in the cost, but in the beautiful human and cultural interactions between different people from very different parts of the world.

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

The Taj Mahal probably ranks as the most beautiful man-made structure I've seen in my life.

Best travel experience though, has to be travelling through Vietnam on a shoestring over 2 weeks, doing what the Americans in 10 years tried and failed to do - move from the south to the north. I slept on buses, trains, planes and boats. What else can I ask for?

Couch surfing through Europe for 3 weeks in 2012. Lived with so many different people, sharing cultures, exchanging ideas, discuss views with my contemporaries in the different countries in Europe. Invaluable lessons, priceless experiences and warm people made for a truly meaningful trip.

Also did a survival scenario in the jungles of Brunei, surviving 9 days on limited food rations and water from nearby creeks.

Diving with Giant Manta Rays in Ko Lanta, Thailand was amazing! The mantas were 7m from tip to tip and so beautiful and graceful they made me tear when I saw them.
