About Me

Hi, I’m Simao. I was born in China and I’m currently finishing my studies there, while using my free time to explore the world. I have a strong interest in art, music, photography, and sports, and I spend a lot of my time doing these things.

I came here when I was 20, and it truly became a turning point in my life, because from that moment on I met many kind and genuine people from all over the world who completely changed me—their stories and experiences gave me the courage to explore more and to stay passionate about everything and about myself. Being here also allowed me to experience a kind of pure sincerity and trust between people that, to me, is far more valuable than any luxury. I want to pass that sincerity and kindness on to others.

I welcome guests at any time when it is convenient for me and will provide whatever I can for them just like those who once helped me.

At this stage of my life, I’m still spending time exploring both myself and the world. I want to listen to different thoughts, cultures, and histories around the world. I’ve always believed that the best guides are the locals—people are the best carriers and evidence of a culture and its history. There is no better way than understanding a country through their voices and perspectives.

At the same time, you can see that each person is a fusion of different and diverse traits. The things that are truly shocking, impressive, or even painful and full of struggle and setbacks are what these stories shape, and that is where their real charm lies. It is always fascinating and constantly drawing me in.

And it is exactly these stories that are continuously shaping me into a better version of myself.

That is why I am here.

Music, Movies, and Books

Aside from the product design books I’m currently studying, I’m also very interested in psychology and sociology. These have been areas I’ve been thinking about and observing on my own for a long time.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was 19, I traveled alone to three countries with less than $500, on my very first trip outside my country. I slept in McDonald’s and at airports, moving through nights without a fixed place to stay.

During one of those nights at an airport, I met other travelers who were on the same tight budget. We ended up talking through the night, sharing stories we probably wouldn’t have told anyone else, until the airport slowly came alive again with morning departures. When it was finally time for our flights, we said goodbye and went our separate ways.

Teach, Learn, Share

I tend to learn about my host’s schedule and habits in advance so I can spend as much time as possible together, and as I mentioned earlier, that’s my intention; since I started living on my own back in high school, I was forced to learn how to cook, haha, and I’ve always been interested in cuisines from different countries, whether main dishes or desserts, and of course I’d also be very happy to cook for my host; I’m someone with a strong desire to express myself, but I also really enjoy listening to others, especially when they share their past experiences, memories, perspectives, and thoughts.

What I Can Share with Hosts
