ABOUT ME
I'm really bad at describing myself. It's kind of hard to do it without either sounding boasty or self-deprecating. But- I'm a student of International Development Studies at McGill University, hoping to have graduated by winter of next year. After that point, I think I'd like to move somewhere where I don't know anyone and learn something new about myself.
PHILOSOPHY
Extinguish the ego.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've been trying to be better about hosting. I love meeting new people, and my couch is often occupied by a travelling friend (or friends of friends), so hosting couch surfers should be right up my ally! I just came back from a trip to Toronto, so I should be settled soon and hopefully hosting people!
I also love travelling, and sometimes get a spontaneous urge to experience a new environment. So far, I've never been hosted by someone I didn't already know, or who hadn't come recommended by friends, but that's mostly been due to lack of experience. I'm hoping to meet potential hosts here in the near future!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
About a year ago I hosted a lovely guy named Sheldon, (who I ended up having a lot of mutual friends with! He now lives in Montreal). He showed me just how lovely the couch surfing community can be, and is a huge part of why I'm still here.
Although I've never looked for a host on couch surfing (so far), I spent a few weeks with an old friend in New York City and had an amazing time! It's because of that visit that New York will always be associated with positive vibes and happy feelings in my mind. I can't wait to go back.

Music, Movies, and Books
These change a lot, so, more than anything, they reflect my current mood.
MUSIC at the moment:
Alt-J
A Tribe Called Quest
Yasiin Bey
Devendra Banhart
BOOKS at the moment:
I just read an amazing philosophical slave narrative called Oxherding Tale. It's fantastic. No matter who you are, I guarantee you will get something from reading it.
Generally though, I love revisiting Catch-22, A Clockwork Orange, Slaughterhouse-Five, The Basic Eight. Books are cool.
I don't really watch movies so much right now. Not for any real reason, they just always feel like too much of a time commitment. But, I like Tarantino (although I find his new stuff problematic). Individual movies I like: Little Miss Sunshine, Brick, Fear and Loathing
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The view from the top of Mount Meru in Tanzania
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you how to knit if you like!
I also used to be able to play the guitar, and have completely fallen out of the habit. I'd love a chance to re-learn it!
I'd also love the opportunity to practice speaking French or Arabic. Both of mine are a bit rusty.
Annnnddd I started getting into gardening last summer, but I'm pretty terrible at it. I'm always looking for tips and tricks!
