About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To see and do everything I can, and to meet new people.

ABOUT ME

I was a Webmaster for a university in CA for eight years. Then, a year ago, I went to Japan for two weeks and Thailand for one. Up until that point I'd never been outside the continental United States more than a couple of miles north or south.

I spent the next year trying to figure out a way to go back to Japan. Until, finally, I realized that all I had to do was go.

Eight years seemed like a good amount of time to have worked or lived in one place, so I quit my job and moved out of my apartment. I went to Japan again, this time for a month and a half.

Now I'm back in America, surfing my friend's couches and planning more adventures until I am forced to find gainful employment once again.

I went to FL, GA, and IL in Dec/Jan. Now it's off to the rest of the world, all the way around, for as long as I can manage.

I tend to collect things, but I'm try to stop doing it so much. I've got too many things. I like to read and play video games. I like to walk around new and interesting places and go to the beach. I like climbing things and digging holes.

PHILOSOPHY

You shouldn't spend all your time imagining how great it will be when you can have and do it all. The adventure it getting to that point.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now I hope to find people willing to let me surf their couches. Eventually, I hope to live someplace interesting enough that people will want to surf my couch.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It started out in Chicago, which it turned out is a great place to start. The group of CSers I hung out with there were amazing!

I've also surfed in New Zealand, Australia, and the UK. Everyone has been so nice. I have nothing but good things to say about everyone. I've even recruited quite a few people I've met to become CSers themselves.

I've never lived anywhere that was interesting enough for anyone to want to visit, but I hope that someday I'll be able to be the host.

Interests

Reading, listening to music, comics, movies, seeing new things in new places. I also like arts and also crafts.

Music, Movies, and Books

While I like all sorts of different types of movies, my three favorite movies are Fight Club, Knight's Tale, and Muppet Christmas Carol

Most of the music I like is not played on the radio, at least not around here. Universal Hall Pass, Splashdown, The Blow, CocoRosie, Death Cab For Cutie, Imogen Heap, Jem, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Cake, Metric...

I generally read Scifi and Fantasy books. My favorite types of books are the ones where some normal guy or girl is suddenly thrust into incredible circumstances, usually becoming a hero. I like Niel Gaiman, Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, Tim Powers, Simon R Green, William Golden, Kat Richardson, A. Lee Martinez...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Bungee jumping at the Nevis Gorge in New Zealand. Walking around Tokyo all night because I missed the last train. Unintentionally seeing the same modern artists work on three continents

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

United States
