About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Making a "home" in various international cities for a time while I write my book. :)
ABOUT ME
I come from a coal-mining town in the northeastern U.S. Like most kids in coal country, I dreamed all my life of getting FAR far away. In my mid-twenties, halfway through grad school, I remembered that I had always wanted to be a writer and a nomad, so I quit a Ph.D. program to make that happen.
People say I'm a paradoxical mix of "pragmatic and otherworldly." I was always a "nerd" with a scientific curiosity -- but also always a bit of a "mystic." I have a way of looking at the world that allows me to slip into a state of reverent wonder pretty much anywhere.
I write non-fiction (working on a memoir) and maintain a blog online with a down-to-earth New Age bent. I've been living abroad so I can freelance in language-related work while preserving the majority of my time for my personal writing projects.
Since I live a very nomadic existence at this point in my life, I can't offer to host right now. Here's to hoping I can in the future!
PHILOSOPHY
Love is my religion. Everyone has something beautiful to share with the world. Treat each other well. Communicate your own truth, lovingly and without fear. The world will be a much better place if we can manage that.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
In the past couple years, I've mostly bounced between hostels, sublets, and friends' houses when I travel. My current lifestyle as a nomadic writer hasn't been conducive to "roots." I'm pretty independent, to be honest, when I'm sharing living space with other people, but I'm happy to chill with you a couple nights out on the town. And, of course, if you host me, I can offer you and/or your friends tarot readings in exchange! Other times, I've done a housing-for-pet-sitting exchange (I love cats! I'm always sad when I leave a place with cats because the cats and I bond fast.).
In terms of experience with this website, I've never hosted/surfed, but I've attended some CS events.
Interests
writing, blogging, feeding squirrels, taking long walks, chilling next to rivers, random late-night eats, red wine, casual anthropologizing, seeing the wonder in everyday things, getting lost in life's omnipresent magic, marveling at how everything weaves itself together, philosophical conversations, and too much else to mention
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I have lived. That is amazing enough for me. It's hard to pick a "most amazing thing" from my memory bank. I count myself lucky for that. I approach all of life with a sense of wonder, always half-expecting the next beautiful surprise, and life just keeps delivering, raising the bar every time. I love it!
