About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Just started a dream job in environmental engineering after finishing graduate school and working as an environmental tech for about two years. I get a good amount of vacation days, so 2017 sees me heading to Cuba and hopefully Iceland, along with some places around the US. Portland, OR will be a new stop for me this year!

ABOUT ME

I love the outdoors. I've been hiking, camping, kayaking, and rapeling all over the US and in a few other countries as well.
Was a standup comedian for four or five years. Performed all over NC, but I also traveled to NYC, Chicago, PA, MD, ATL, and a few other places to perform.
I have a master's in applied geography. I chose geography because it combined a lot of elements from other degrees I could have looked at into one convenient package. My thesis was on the northern migration of red mangrove trees in Florida as a result of global climate change.
I love sports. Soccer it's Brazil and Tottenham Hotspur. Football it's Carolina Panthers and (CFL) Montreal Alouettes. Hockey is the Washington Capitals, baseball the Washington Nationals, MLS the DC United.
I am conversationally fluent in Brazilian Portuguese. I lived there for 14 months between 2006-07, studying abroad. I went back in 2011 for a few weeks to visit old friends and reacquaint myself with the language. I used to speak Spanish - Portuguese kinda took away that ability, but I can still understand virtually all of it, it's just when I try and speak it all that comes out is Portuguese.

PHILOSOPHY

I try to enjoy each and every day for all that its worth. I don't want to die having regretted not traveling here or there, or experiencing or trying something I feel like I should have.
I'm kind of a minimalist as well; I like to know that I could pick up and go somewhere if the opportunity presented itself.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've couchsurfed in the USA, Canada, Israel, Brazil, and Argentina.
I've also hosted a few people from different parts of the USA.
Anytime I travel I always make an attempt to couchsurf. For me it's the best way to get to know a city as the locals know it. Anytime I host I try and provide that same luxury to the person I'm hosting, even if it is kinda hard in the Triad, being kind of a small area with not way too much going on.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've never had a bad experience couchsurfing or hosting a couchsurfer. I've met great people and done and learned awesome things about all of the people I've met and all of the places I've traveled.

Interests

Comedy, playing drums, sports (watching and playing), I love to write and read, and I'm always down to go hiking or camping.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love film; a couple of my favorites are Apocalypse Now, The Big Lebowski, and Pulp Fiction.
I've played lots of instruments in my life, starting with the clarinet in middle school band, up to tenor sax, gave guitar and bass a try, and now I've been playing drums for the past several years. I love Tool, Rush, Pearl Jam, Dire Straits, Wu Tang Clan, and a lot of eclectic stuff like Air, Zero 7, a lot of stuff Mike Patton has done, and a lot of stuff Dan The Automator has produced.
I also love books, with my favorite being Blood Meridian. I also really like Michael Chabon's books. I read physics and other science books for fun, so I often catch myself talking about Brian Greene or Leonard Mlodinow a bit.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiking to the top of Clingmans Dome and standing over the fog. Watching the sunrise over the Negev Desert from the top of Mount Masada. Getting sprayed by the mists at Foz do Iguaçu. Eating poutine at La Banquise. Going to the Super Bowl in Houston (even though the Panthers lost). Survived getting lost+heat exhaustion+dehydration in Glen Canyon.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to go hiking, even if it's just a quick day hike. There are lots of beaver ponds in the area and they're always a favorite of mine.
I also love independent and foreign films. Aperture in downtown Winston-Salem is a favorite place of mine.
