About Me
Hey !
I'm Zoe, and I'm usually a writer, artist and philosophy student in Melbourne, Australia. At the beginning of 2015 I decided to undertake a hiatus from university to see more of this fantastic planet and the people who inhabit it.
Back in Australia, I spend most of my time studying, writing, making collages and prints, boogying with my friends and exploring the beautiful mountain that I live on in the Dandenong Ranges national park.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
While sights are always captivating, I find people much more interesting than places, and have been recommended couchsurfing on numerous occasions. I've informally done it from time to time, and thought that I should (finally) get legitimate.
Overall, I'd love to foster some great friendships, swap thoughts (especially those of philosophic capacity ;) ), share cooking tips and jam if there's some instruments available.
Interests
I have too many!
However, here's a short list to give you some sort of picture:
Writing (I'm currently working on a post-apocalyptic novel which satirises some of the more ludicrous and disturbing aspects of Western culture).
Art (printmaking in particular- especially that of the lino and silk-screen variety. I also love the aesthetic of Japanese woodblock prints, and am ecstatic to be undertaking a course with an artist who specialises in these in 2016).
Film (I'm fascinated with cinematography, and would love to produce some shonky Linklater-esque documentaries with my camera in the future)
Philosophy (I've dabbled in a variety of eastern and western approaches, but have been captivated by postmodernism and Zen buddhism. Next year, when I undertake an honours degree, I hope to explore these schools of thought in more depth and if possible, show how they can be thought of as similar).
Music (I love singing and jamming with other people, especially my partner in crime, Bri. I can play violin, ukulele, piano and a little bit of sitar ;) ).

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: In terms of genre, I'm a sucker for experimental hip-hop, psychedelic and trip-hop. Some of my favourite artists, to narrow it down, are WHY?, Modest Mouse, Sun Araw, CLOUDDEAD, Conan Mockasin and Boards of Canada.
Movies: Anything by Linklater (Slacker in particular), Jodorowsky or the Coen Brothers. I also have a soft spot for documentaries and old sci-fis, such as THEM! and Forbidden Planet.
Books: Burroughs, Borges, Ginsberg, Vonnegut and French philosopher Jean Baudrillard are probably my favourites.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Undertaken falconry lessons at the falcon orphanage in Pokhara, Nepal. I love birds, so the opportunity to feed, fly and hold Kites and Egyptian vultures was incredible.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I would love to share ideas, conversation, music, films, a boogie (on the dancefloor ;) ), yoga tips and food (while I'm not an all-round amazing cook, I like to think I can whip up a decent batch of noodles, dumplings and breakfast) with anyone who is kind enough to host me.
